Hi, Im in a total panic, when i had my dd who is nearly 7,the norm was to make up bottles with formula and store them in fridge.....ive only found out now that you've not to do that anymore......the thing is tho,i wasnt told this as was bf and last couple days switched to ff but have been doing same as i did with dd as noone told me any different and im stressing as he is just out of hospital and im worried cos been doing his bottles that way.......he was having both in hospital but they have readymade sterile glass feeds you use so didnt have to make any up......

so please someone tell me how you do it/best way.....can i sterilise his bottles then keep the boiled water in sterile bottles (in fridge or out? ) or are you better making up every feed there and then?

Firstly, don't panic :hugs:

The recommendation from health professinals etc is to make up each feed as you need it, however, for a lot of people, that simply isn't practical when a baby is screaming hungry! There are plenty of ladies here who make up bottles the same as you, fast cool them, and keep them in the fridge till needed.

Another option is, as you said, to sterilise the bottles, put freshly boiled water in, and those bottles are sterile for 24 hours.

It's personal preference as to what works for you. If you're happy making bottles up and storing them in the fridge (as that's what you did before), then no reason to not keep doing it :hugs:

honestly the things that they tell you not to do now compared to what you were told to do back when had dd.......feel like first time mum again lol

lol its mad isnt it - I have 16 bottles a day to do sod doing that fresh each time - I personally do the water option and add the powder to the room temperature water each time as I store the bottles in the nursery so its a toss up between whats quicker - warming a chilled ready made bottle or adding four scoops of powder.

had read your thread about developing mastitus,am feeling it for you,im on day 2 now of stopping bf and my boobs are agony, keep getting sharp pains in one,my lo kicked one while lying on me yesterday and i cried with the pain.....cannot imagine how sore it is for you.....

think going to do water thing too, im worrying cos he's just getting over a bad illness but it worked ok with dd and lots other people seem to be doing it so.....and agree, its so much easier, esp with you having double the work.

i still made mine up (until she was 5 weeks) and stored them in the fridge as long as you cool them down in water quickly and not leave them out to cool

Making up a batch of bottles and storing them in the fridge for the day is what I used to do with my first born.
With Evie, I pour the boiled water into the bottles and then leave them on the side (away from sunlight etc) for when I need them, and just add the powder which I keep already measured out in little dispensers. I find heating up a bottle this way ALOT quicker rather than out of the fridge .. especially as she is now taking 7oz bottles! But it's each to their own hun, whatever works for you

I make my bottles and store them in the fridge the way i see it is if it worked then it will work now whats changed ? Even the nurses in scbu said theyd still do it! The only milk theyd maybe avoid it with is aptimil xx

Hi! I started making them as i went along but it soon became inpractical, i make my bottles up with water boiled and left for no more than 30mins, the way i see it is if you make the bottles up with water at 75c to kill any nastys and the bottles are sterilised properly then no nastys will be in the milk to develop! i cool my bottles straight away under running cold water and store in the fridge, but its each to their own and whatever suits! xxxx

thats the way i was thinking too RachB1983, he's just starting to get into a good 3 hourly routine but b4 that was feeding every 2 to 2.5 hours, was too much to try make up fresh bottle everytime. My DD was fine with it so.....thanks everyone :) xx

I think there is to much 'hype' about these things nowadays just to worry & stress us moms out! You would have thought that the milk manufacturer would have come up with something to make the milk 'sterile' in this day and age! As long as everything is clean and sterile then no problemo!! :happydance: xxx
