Hi guys,

I was made redundent on 24th July, so currently on income support. I applied for Maternity pay through HM Customs as my employer obviously wont be paying it!

But today I got told by OH's sister that i can only have income support or maternity pay, not both. Is this correct?

Ta  x

I take it its maternity allowance you have applied for?

I've applied for SMP.

When i went to the Jobcentre plus, they gave me a number to phone regarding disbutes if an employer doesn't pay you SMP ie if they have gone into liquidation etc (Which my company has) so they look into it and if all is correct the HM Customs will pay me the money instead.

Sorry if that makes no sense LOL

Not sure on SMP but I know you cant claim income support AND maternity allowance thats what I got told last year well actually I got told by one person in the job centre I could but when I phoned to make the claim I got told no as I was having maternity allowance, so I phoned the other lady back and she said thats not right phone them back so I did and spoke to someone differnt who also said no you cant have both!

I think...

You won't get SMP through HMRC because you will no longer be employed.

You will get Income support until you go on 'maternity leave' and then it will change to Maternity Allowance. (I'm sure I read of someone here who was in a similar position)

Hope that helps :)

Yes, Seraphim is correct.

I switched from JSA to Maternity Allowance once I was 11 weeks from EDD. I applied for Maternity Allowance myself.

Here is the link for the application form for MA: https://www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/claimforms/ma1_print.pdf

exactly as above you will recieve IS until you are 29 weeks and then it will switch to MA

put your claim in for MA when you are 26 weeks as it can take a couple of weeks to sort and your IS will stop

yep agree with all of the above!!! It's maternity allowance you will get, about £123 per week if you have worked for the right amount of weeks in the last 66 weeks and paid NI. (Or something like that!) check out the direct.gov website
