I never wanted to give birth! It has always been a massive fear of mine and I know I have an extremely low pain threshold, So finding out I was pregnant was really scary! I looked up hypnobirthing and all the different techniques to keep me calm when the time came but in the end nothing went to plan at all.

When my due date arrived, nothing happened. So I was given the sweep at 41weeks, the midwife couldnt reach my cervix though so I was booked in to be induced at 41+6.
I arrived at the hospital for 8.30 and was put on the monitor to check babys heart rate and I had to click a beeper every time I felt him move. They inserted a pessary to soften my cervix and start my contractions at around 9am. I could then walk around abit to help things along. My contractions started around 2-3 hours later and I was put on the monitor to measure their frequency and strength. At around 3pm I was 1cm dilated and they tried to break my waters. I couldnt handle it as my cervix was still very posterior and when they tried to hook it forwards it was agony and I was crying through pain and fear. Looking back I must have seemed like such a drama queen but at the time I just wanted to die. I tried gas and air to get through the pain of them pulling down on my cervix but the spaced out feeling and the intrusive nature of the procedure brought back some very unwanted memories of something that happened to me when I was younger. So that just added to my panic. I told a student nurse why I was panicking and she got me moved to a private room. Once there I was a tad calmer and used the birth ball during contractions and could focus on my breathing. I tried the gas and air again and was better on it this time round and they finally managed to break my waters on the 4th attempt.

I was checked every couple of hours but even though my contractions were getting stronger I just wasnt dilating.

They put me on the drip to increase my contractions during the night and boy did that intensify the pain! I still wasnt dilating though! They upped the dose to the maximum and I was getting 4-6 contractions in every 10 minutes and it was excruciating! I finally managed to get to 2cm the next morning but the pain was just too much so I asked for an epidural :( I used the gas and air again whilst that was being done and once it kicked in everything was fine :) I managed a few naps as I was exhausted and by 9am I felt somewhat refreshed. It was so strange feeling the sensations but not the pain. I kept letting the epidural wear off a bit so I could see how bad the pain was but always ended up topping it up after a while. At 9am I was checked again but was STILL only 2cm! They told me that if ai hadnt dilated to atleast 4cm in the next 3hours then I would be taken in for a c-section :'( at that point I broke down and just sobbed and sobbed as that was my worst case scenario. When I was checked 2 hours later though I was fully dilated! 2cm-10cm in 2 hours and I hadnt even noticed!

11am and I was ready to push :) I was strangely calm throughout this part and my mum and partner said that I never made a single sound and was smiling between contractions... Its all a bit surreal looking back. I remember the head getting stuck and being told I would need an epesiotomy. I was terrefied of being cut so stupidly just did a massive push... Which ofcourse resulted in a much worse 2nd degree tear... Fun. But once the head was out I did one more push and my beatiful son was born at 13.13 on the 22nd of may :). He was placed on my stomach and he did the body crawl up to my chest and latched himself straight on :D I was so happy I was crying haha. My partner cut the cord and was with him when he was weighed whilst I was stitched up. He weighed 8lbs2.5oz :)

overall it started off the worst experience of my life but the end stage was the most beautiful thing ever :)

Congratulations on your new arrival! :hugs:
