Hi ladies and bumps,

I am being induced (uk) on the 6th of September (38+2)due to very bad SPD..

My first labour my waters broke naturally and everything fine no intervention nothing...

So I am quite scared anyone been induced before if so what happened?

I have been told if they can they will try break my waters, then up to 3 pessaries if they don't work the dreaded drip (terrified of needles and scared to have epidural incase i cant feel spd and do some damage)...

Also not looking forward to being stuck on a ward hoping to be able to go for a walk in costa coffee lol....any experiences please?xx

Hi Honey,

I was induced with my son (albeit almost 7 years ago now) but what happened with me was that they inserted a gel vaginally to induce labour. It took 3 lots of gel and 36 hours with me to get going, but a lot of women only need one lot of gel so dont' worry about that.

As soon as I was 3cm dilated they broke my waters and pretty quickly I went from having a few "tightenings" to having proper contractions. By the time I was 5 cm dilated I opted for an epidural, I am TERRIFIED OF NEEDLES, however I was allowed to use gas and air while getting the epidural and I have to say it was wonderful. I never had another other forms of pain killers due to having the epidural from early on.

So for me it was gel...walking about, bouncing on birth ball etc and then once I was 3cm dilated broke the waters, which by the way wasn't painful and then I had drips etc put up to get labour really going.

Personally i would recommend bouncing on the birthing ball, I believe that is what got me dilating. Nothing had worked up until I used that...might have been a coincidence?

Good luck honey... I wish you all the best :hugs:

Hiya, I had a really positive induction experience. Went into hosp at 4, got first pessary at 7 whilst being monitored only got little cramps which were nothing, 2nd pessary at 1am as still no progress and that got things moving, I was having some painful contractions and had no one there as they sent oh half home at 11! Rang him back and he came at 8. Was offered a hot bath which I took, only helped for a minute as kept needing to get out as I needed (tmi!) a poo (little did I know it was the clearout) Oh got back onto induction ward just as I was being led back to the bed by midwife about 8am, I was 2cm and she broke my waters for me- odd sensation, lil painful. I remember thinking (why is she pulling my skin down there? lol. Contractions kept getting worse, had a canula put into my hand incase I needed the hormone drip but I didn't thank god. Went with the gas and air, bounced on ball, when I got onto bed to be checked again I was 7cm had a shot of pethadine and anti sickness and then it was time to push. My labour was only 4hour 25 mins, 25mins pushing. So it wasn't long at all like the inductions are known for.

Hey sweetie - I've just posted my induction story in another thread so will copy and paste it. I had a very positive experience - I hope you do too xx

Hi! I was induced at 12 days overdue and had a really good experience. I was already 1-2cm dialated and my cervix was soft so didn't need any gel.

I had my water's broken at 9pm and was hooked up to the drip at 10pm because nothing was happening. My mum tells me my contractions started around 1.30am and although the first couple were 20 mins apart, they all of a sudden went 2-2.5mins apart. I found them more than manageable and although I had a shot of pethedine early on I didn't think it really did anything so didn't bother with any more.

I went from 5-10cm dialated in less than an hour - which surprised the midwife lol - and all of a sudden I was pushing. Even at that stage the thought of an epidural never entered my head because I didn't think the pain was unbareable.

Francesca arrived at 8.26am weighing 7lbs 9oz :-)

You want to know the funny thing? I slept pretty much the whole way through! I was planning on having an active labour, wandering around etc but got so tired I went for a lie down and just slept - bracing myself for contractions and drifting off again lol. I did get up for a bit but fell asleep on my feet so got back on the bed again. When I was pushing the contractions got a little further apart and DH tells me I was snoring! I remember dreaming too

Good luck sweetie, I wish you all the best xx

i would reccomend being as upright with as little monitoring as possible esp if your being induced before 40wks hun it will help and being on your back is really a bad posistion as it takes all babies weight off your cervix so your less likely to dilate nicely. good luck hun
