Well I know I havnt posted much but wanted to write down my birth story so here goes.
I went in to see the consultant on the 16th March to have a sweep at 39+3, due to having a big baby, me being overweight and baby keeping going quiet we were worried and i felt so awful. She said she couldnt do a sweep but they were concerened as baby kept going quiet and we had been in a few times to have her monitered. She said that they wanted to induce me so we asked when right now was her answer, apparently i went as white as a ghost and couldnt speak lol.
Well I was checked up on the ward thing at 2pm and they said they could do a sweep cant remember why they said they couldnt when checked earlier but they did and put in a pessary to start me off. Once everything was sorted they said to go eat and walk but be back in 2 hours for monitering, so lots of walking and went back to check baby on the moniter at 4pm.
I started getting little niggles at around 6/7pm and stayed on the 4 bed ward bouncing on a birthing ball. I was getting worried as my Oh was going to be made to go home at 8.30pm if i was still in that room as they cant stay, i've not spent a night away from him in years so was worried about being in pain on my own in this ward. The other girl in the ward had her waters go at 8pm and was rushed through to a delivery suite, they came in at 8.25pm to moniter baby and as i stood up from the ball my water broke!! I was happy but they checked and i was barely dialted 1-2cm, they did say though that as i was the only one on the ward and they were really busy on delivery they wouldnt be able to give me much time and my OH could stay untila nyone else came into the ward. This was when things got painful as i started contracting for a minute at a time with only 45 second breaks inbetween which they told me was normal with a pessary (well it may have been nice for them to tell me this before having it!!).
Most of the midwives were fab apart from one woman who came in and had a go at me for being upset, i knew labour was going to hurt but i felt i was getting no rest as the break inbetween was so small, she just said to me it was going to get a lot worse. I was still moving round and getting in the bath trying to keep moving but they strapped me up to the moniter for over an hour as they forgot about me so lying on the bed made things so much worse!! They came in and gave me 2 paracetomol(sp?), told me to put up with it until my OH had a go and they took the pessary out to give me a couple of hours break as i couldnt relax at all so it wasnt gonna happen that way!!
At 1.30am they put the pessary back in and said delivery had calmed down and i was going to be moved to the room with the pool and allowed to get in it for a while i was so pleased as it meant my OH could stay but they came back in 10 minutes later and said actually they were going to send my OH home as we all needed sleep and nothing was going to happen in the next 18-24 hours as i was still 1-2cm dialated. this really upset me as i had really got worked up to go in the pool
. They told me i could have a pethadine injection, i asked what the likelyhood of me having the baby anytime soon was as i didnt want that close to birth they said that nothign at all was going to happen!
My OH left at 2am and i was so scared i took the injection hoping to get some relief worrying how I was going to cope after the midwife had been horrible to me earlier on, they came in injected me, turned the lights off and told me to sleep
i kept calling them as i was in agony but they refused to check me, told me not to get off the bed as i'd had the pethadine.
At 5am one came in to moniter baby again and i told her i wanted to go to the loo, she decided reluctantly to check me and all of a sudden her face went white and she told me i was fully dialated and she ran out of the room. She came back in with a wheelchair, i remember saying to her "I guess its too late for an epidural then", she laughed then practically threw me on the wheelchair, threw a sheet over my bottom half and ran through the corridoor, i was on my phone trying to call my OH but he wasnt answering. The hospital couldnt get through to my OH my mom made it to the hospital by 5.25am and everyone was trying to contact my OH while i was pushing, (i tried gas and air but didnt like holding it, felt like it distracted me). In the end we had to send my dad to throw stones at the window to wake my OH up, he made it to the hospital by 6.30am and i pushed alot better once he came in apparently, i got to feel her head while i was pushing which was amazing and my OH and mom kept looking and getting all excited i wish i had a mirror to see her come out. The midwife had said to me i would have my baby by 7am this is what kept me going, i could see a clock and just focused on it wont be longer than so many minutes.
As the 2 hour pushing mark came up the midwife decided to inject some stuff into down there to numb the area and said she would have to cut me as she was so close to coming out but wouldnt, i agreed. once she cut me around 7am i only pushed for a few more minutes, i got her head out, but as she was a big baby and they were worried about her shoulders getting stuck they pulled the rest of her out which to me felt like the worst bit!!
She was born at 7.11am weighing in at 9lb3oz which was smaller than they predicted so i was happy, my Oh got to announce that she was a she as we hadnt found out the sex, she had her cord around her neck but not too bad and my downstairs feels ruined but seeing her made everything worth it.
I got skin to skin and the first breastfeed once they had weighed her, tagged her and cleared her airways which took very little time and they tidied me up which took over an hour but i got lots of pain killer injections and used gas and air which was great now i wasnt pushing.
My OH got skin to skin as well which really helped them bond i think, so from being told 18-24 hours i had her 5 hours later, i was annoyed they had told me so positivly that nothing would happen as my OH almost missed it but i'm just so happy he did make it, neither the mean midwife or the one who sent OH home ever stepped foot in my room again surprisingly even though i know they were still there and one was meant to deliver my baby.
She is amazing and every second was worth it, I cant wait to do it all again and i even said that while i was still being stitched up lol, anyway heres a few piccys, me on the day i morning i was induced, me and Emma, me, my OH and Emma, my OH having skin to skin with Emma and Emma in her fishbowl lol.
