Well my little man is finally here! Went in for an induction Sunday night (May 20th), because ultrasound estimated Eli's weight to be around 9lbs9oz. Originally had a c-section for the 30th because he was transverse, but he had flipped by 37 week appointment. Here is my induction experience, I kept pretty detailed notes so that I could come back and share with you all, because I know I wanted a detailed story before I went in for my induction! I hope that you find it useful

8:00 PM -- Checked into the hospital.
8:30 PM -- I was brought back to my room, by the nurse that would be with me until 7AM (She was extremely sweet and even came into my room later to chat that night for about 30 minutes while OH went around getting snacks).
8:45 PM -- Nurse put on baby heart-rate and contraction monitor. Elijah's heart-rate was looking good, and I was having a few contractions here and there that I couldn't feel.
9:30 PM -- Resident OB came in to check me out. Did a quick 2 second ultrasound and confirmed that Elijah was still head down. Checked my cervix, I was 1cm (had been just a fingertip dilated on Tuesday) and I was long. Resident put in the cervidel (gel). I felt very uncomfortable while he put it in, but afterward felt nothing. It looked like a tampon with a long string dangling down so they could pull it out afterward.
10:30 PM -- I was taken off both monitors (heart-rate and contraction) so that I could get some sleep.
11:30 PM -- Received 5mg of Ambien to help me sleep.
12:00 AM -- No longer allowed any food or drink. Only ice chips.

1:30 AM -- Took another 5mg of Ambien, since I was still unable to sleep. (Fell asleep shortly after this dose).
5:30 AM -- Nurse woke me up and took out the Cervidel. I was put back on the monitors. Eli's heart-rate was in the mid 130's.
6:30 AM -- Nurse started Pitocin. Contractions are about 2-3 minutes apart at the point.
6:55 AM -- Nurse came in and increased my Pitocin.
7:00 AM -- My friendly nurse ends her shift =/ (Not so friendly nurse starts at this point).
7:20 AM -- Started to feel the contractions, still bearable at this point.
7:30 AM -- One of my doctors came in and checked my dilation (2cm) and broke my water. At this point I was pretty emotional. I got up to use the bathroom and started balling my eyes out because I was leaking water all over the floor Once the water was broken though it was coming out in gushes while I was sitting in bed, which made me pretty uncomfortable.
8:20 AM -- Contractions still coming every 2-3 minutes.
9:40 AM -- Doctor came in again, still only 2cm dilated, so they upped the Pitocin again.
10:15 AM -- Started to feel the contractions more intensely. Decided to ask for an epidural.
10:35 AM -- Anesthesiologist came in to start the epidural. Not as painful as I thought it would be, but still not my favorite part of the whole ordeal. Pain eased pretty quickly (felt two more contractions and then nothing). But the one thing I was not ready for was the severe amount of itching that followed! It was horrible! Could get no relief from that, but would rather that then the pain! Also, felt pretty warn out at this point.
11:45 AM -- Doctor came in again and I was almost 4cm! Starting to make progress! She decided to up the Pitocin again. She put in an internal monitor to check the intensity/duration/length of contractions. I was still sitting pretty high up.
12:30 PM -- Upped the Pitocin again, now was at 20m/units.
12:55 PM -- Contractions are 2 minutes apart, and pretty strong based on the readings from the internal. Upped the Pitocin to 22 now.
1:30 PM -- Upped Pitocin to 24.
1:35 PM -- New doctor came in and checked me out, still at 4. Decided to Max out the Pitocin at 30. Doctor will be coming back in two hours, if I hadn't made any progress she was going to discuss a c-section with me.
2:20 PM -- Started to faintly feel the contractions through the epidural.
3:15 PM -- Contractions are now 1-1.5 minutes apart.
3:27 PM -- Doctor came back in and I was still 4cm. Told me that the contractions were coming 1 minute apart and very intense. But since they haven't made any impact in the last 4 hours, they probably weren't going to do anything and the end result would be a c-section. Told me this was probably happening because of his size (head was too big to push down on my cervix). I decided to get the c-section. Didn't want to wait another 2 hours and have no progress. After this, things started happening really fast, which scared me and I started crying uncontrollably. Mixture of feelings going through me. They had me in the OR less than 20 minutes after the decision to have a c-section was made! I was so close to meeting my little man, yet I couldn't stop crying!
3:41 PM -- Arrived in the OR, got me prepped super fast. I was nervous that I wouldn't get numbed, when the doctor looked over and asked if I had felt her pinch me super hard! Couldn't feel a thing. Didn't think that my OH would make it into the room, they started talking about starting the surgery! But he came in and I just looked into his eyes and was pretty calm. It literally felt like they were playing tug of war in my stomach, but it wasn't bad at all.
3:59 PM -- I heard Elijah cry for the first time and I started balling. It was the most emotional special time ever. He was finally in this world. Scored a 9 on both APGAR test! He was absolutely perfect, and instead of the originally expected 9lbs9oz, he was only 8lbs10oz.
Elijah Paul was brought into this world May 21st, 2012 at 3:59PM. 8lbs10oz at birth (8lbs when we left the hospital), 20 3/4 inches long and absolutely beautiful. We are having trouble breastfeeding but are working on it everyday. Mommy and Daddy are super tired, but he is a very quiet baby and we couldn't ask for more. So many doctors and nurses have said he was perfect The recovery of the c-section was rough at times (if you have one make sure the first few days you take the pain medicine on time! That is my only advice!), I am doing better now Elijah was a week old yesterday and is becoming more alert everyday. I am struggling slightly with postpartum depression, but with the help of my OH and Elijah I am getting through it. I appreciate you reading my story. Sorry it was long, but I wanted to put in as many details as possible to help anyone who needs the advice
