Just scheduled our induction today.. We have to go to the hospital Monday afternoon where they will start with Cervidil, then the plan is to go to Pitocin on Tuesday morning.. I'm a nervous nelly! Anyone had any experience with this before? I'm nervous about having to go the night before, as silly as it sounds, but I don't want to spend any longer in the hospital than I have to. I would rather be home and with my hubby and dog! I'm nervous about having a baby -- labor and child birth in general. I'm nervous because I don't know the process/procedures/what's going to happen to me! I sometimes feel like the more I try to research it, the more scary it becomes haha! Thank you, Google! :dohh: I'm sure we will have lots of family there, and that worries me, too. I don't want people looking at me.. waiting for something to happen. I can see that being irritating. I don't know; I guess I just have a lot of questions in general, and I can't quite form them all if that makes any sense. I'm open to any advice, experiences, etc. Thank you!

I was induced with my first which was 7 years ago but I did not get the cervadil only a week of bed rest in the hospital before I was actually induced. I was also on magnesium for high blood pressure so I was sick most of the day. My advice to you which I know easier said than done is to try and relax and stay calm. If you think having people being there would annoy you then dont be afraid to open your mouth and say something. The day is all about you and whatever you want. Make sure hubby understands that his job will be to make you as comfortable as he can. If yor tolerance for pain isnt very high then I suggest not waiting to long before you get the epi if not then you are a strong woman!! The dr broke my water about an hour after they started the pit drip as I had not begun having contractions and after that I could not stand it and got an epi 2 hours later but I am a sissy. My second I labored at home until I finally got to the hospital and was 8 CM before I got the spinal for a c section (planned) and honestly it wasnt to bad. Hope it all works out for you and remember stay calm and breathe!! Keep updated!

Thanks! That's my goal is to just try to stay calm and play it all by ear; not sure what else I could do!

I had cervadil and it was fine! Did nothing really. The next day they broke my water and started pitocin that's when the real fun started...

Is cervadl the gel? I don't recall what I had but with my first 15 years ago, I wasn't effacing and was late so dr put a gel behind my cervix to get me to efface and get me started (ouch) the putting in part hurt like heck, I won't lie. She did it 3 times. The third she said if it didn't work, I will be induced..well it worked! But I get there at 5 cm dilated and labor stopped so had to have petocin anyway :/

I was just induced with cervidil. I had a great experience. Due to my health issues, I agreed to induction on Wednesday (I had been admitted the day before for monitoring.) while it wasn't the 'perfect, move around, natural labor, it was quick, effective, and my baby arrived healthy!
Here was my experience:
I got settled in my labor and delivery suite. I was told to stretch and walk around for a bit as I have to be in bed flat on my back for two hours after the cervidil was put in. When the time came, the doctor inserted the cervidil behind my cervix with a gloves hand. This part did hurt, kind of felt like someone was shoving a small pine come up me 😁, but it only took a minute. Then I was left to relax. I was told it may cause cramping and contractions, and tht it could be left in for up to 12 hours and then would be removed. I was also told that for about 25% of those that get it, it jump starts labor without pitocin.
Well, within about 40 minutes I started with mold
Contractions, within another hour they were rather intense and close. The doctor checked me and I was 4cm and 80% effaced, so he pulled out the cervidil early (this didn't hurt at All).
The plan was to see how the contractions continued on their own, but when me and the baby had some heart deceleration (due to m heart condition, not the induction!) it was decided to move on to pitocin. Within minutes, my water broke and I started contracting hard. I opted for an epidural, it was placed in and worked great, I actually took a long nap! By early morning I woke up and recognized the feeling if the baby ready to come out (intense pressure in rectum and I could feel the baby engage deep). Nurse checked me and I was 9.5 cm and cervix was fully effaced. She called my doc who lives within five minutes of hospital and he asked me to 'wait for him'! Lol. So I literally crossed my legs and the nurses set up the room for delivery. He came in the door about ten minutes later, and my daughter slid completely out in one push. I did have a small tear but no pain. Baby was on my chest nursing while my husband cut cord, my doc massaged the placenta out and put in a few stitches.
While most people with epidural a stay in bed a bit longer, I was feeling so good after I was up and about ten minutes later.
I've felt absolutely great since. It's now 23 hours later, and I'm in my hospital room cuddling my girl. I have been taking Motrin and 5mg percocet, simply because she is nursing so well my uterus is contracting down quickly and that can hurt. Ironically, the more kids you've nursed, the quicker you contract down. It's very healthy but can cause painful contractions after birth (short and only for a few days tho!!).

Mdjoy, The cervidil is a wafer-type thing. It isn't a gel.

CatherineK, I'm so glad to see a "good" story! I'm quite nervous about it! My doctor's plan is for the doctor on call to start the cervidil Monday night, and then she will start the Pitocin Tuesday morning. (Hopefully maybe I won't need it!) I guess until I started researching it, I wasn't really aware that it could start labor on its own.. My doctor isn't on call until Tuesday.. so if something happens Monday night, it's not going to be her taking care of me. I'm okay with that I think; (not that it matters at this point! haha) I just want him to get here quickly and safely and as painlessly as possible (I know, that's just a dream, too, lol!).

that was our plan with my middle daughter... they popped in the cervidil and about two hours later i was in full blown labor... never needed the pitocin... cervadil was enough! :)

I'm still foolishly hoping to go into labor on my own before Monday afternoon.. unfortunately, I'm running out of time! Lol
