My youngest is taking part in this study with UCSD (university of california san Diego) at the autism centre, she just had her first session and goes back in 6-9m for the next part. They do play sessions where they watch where LO goes, then how they interact with the psychologist, a developmental assessment and a ADOS for ASD traits.

My dd is 15m and qualified as my son is dx autistic, her results were she's low risk of ASD:thumbup: but her speech/coordination is at the 9m level. We were offered speech therapy or wait and see, any ideas on the way forward?

Also my son! He's now 4 1/2 and is still in his special ed preschool, ASD specialised with 50/50 ASD kids to peer models:thumbup: He's there 5 days a week getting different therapies as well as social interaction BUT I'm finding his vocal tics are getting worse! He and another ASD boy are bouncing off each other so its pretty much constant, atm they're shouting out "face your gabes" which makes no sense lol but my son shouts it at anyone, esp strangers if he's excited! I'm at a loss as to how to deal with this, on top of that if I do the usual 5x and then you have to stop as recommend by his developmental pediatrician, he swaps it for another phrase :argh: Thankfully he's getting better at not smelling the road everytime we cross now:thumbup:

I would take the speech therapy if its being offered if that were me. Claire is on the waitlist for speech therapy (as well as occupational therapy as well) and its taking forever!

The speech therapy certainly isn't going to hurt at all!

Aww, bless your little man. :cloud9: I get at a loss as well at times on how to deal with Claire. :hugs:

I'm sorry you're finding such a waitlist for speech therapy, do they not have a early intervention programme in canada?:hugs: Is there anything a speech therapist can do if LO has no words though? Sorry bit lost in this aspect!

Thanks yes lol its very easy to get lost on how to deal with their various behaviours! They are great fun though:cloud9:

Early intervention is a joke here. IMHO at least!

She was flagged at her 2 year well baby check up for delayed speech (Jan 2011), wasn't seen by an OT until January 2012 and not seen by a SLP until Feb 2012! Unreal, over a year wait!

For her to do her ADOS we have to wait until late fall early winter 2012, and then not get therapy until 2013!!!! She'll be over 4 years old then. :nope:

Wow thats awful you have to wait so much! Especially when the earlier therapy is started the better! I'm sorry:hugs: I am very thankful that both the places we've lived (arizona and california) have been very on the ball and fast, I'd go crazy waiting years:nope::hugs:

We decided to do the wait and see a little longer with my dd Eilidh and now majorly regretting it. She had a speech/communication age of 9m in june at 15m old and we noticed she was losing even more of her sounds so got her in with early intervention and at asessment last wednesday we found her speech/communication has regressed further and at 19m its at 3m level :( thats for both expressive and receptive giving a severe delay, she was also found to have the same severe delay in social/emotional development. So now we're waiting on a call back from her service provider in the next 2 weeks to set her up with home therapy:thumbup:
