My baby has reflux so is on gaviscon, it's worked wonders for the reflux but has given her terrible constipation.

She's been straining for most of the day but cannot go :( We've tried lying her down on her front, back and sides, rubbing her tummy, rubbing her back, keeping her upright but nothing's worked.

I'm feeling so helpless now

The only thing that helped my LO's gaviscon constipation was lactulose. You can get it on prescription or over the counter.

Thank you :flower: Do you think I should speak to the doctor first or just go to Boots tonight and buy it over the counter?

We gave ours (at that age) 1oz of cool boiled water, twice a day, on recommendation from my HV. It worked. Now he's a little older we add prune juice

Thank you :flower: She's breastfed so we'd struggle to get 1oz of water into her as she refuses the bottle. We struggle enough syringing the gaviscon in! :haha:

We also did water. 1oz before milk in the am & 1oz before bed.

i doubt you will be able to get lactulose for 1 month old from the pharmacist i would think you would need a prescription (though i do know a woman who got it for her 2 day old by saying she was 4 months :s). what formula is LO on? Aptmail (not sure about the others) do a comfort one which happens with constipation. it also helps with colic

I had my LO on gaviscon and had same prob, tried C& G carobel and it worked wonders w/o the constipation altho you may not want to change her to that if gaviscon is working, maybe just try the cool boiled water x

You are right, I've just got back from the pharmacy but they said they'd be reluctant to give the lactulose and to try the cooled boiled water instead. She's breastfed so I think the water is my only option.

I've never heard of C&G Carobel, is it a reflux treatment? I've just given her a syringe full of cooled water which is a start, will give her some more soon. She's straining for a poo so much that she's bringing sick up :nope: She's crying and I'm crying, I hate seeing her like this

This is what we did too. Worked a treat. As he got a bit older we started lowering the amount of gaviscon in each bottle and now only give it in 2 bottles a day now.
