Well this is a little late. Been so busy and time has just flown! Sorry if this goes into a little essay. She's had a mini rough ride since her arrival.
Matilda Frances was born on 24th October 2012. at 5.03pm weighing 7lb 10oz. Gestational age 37 weeks. 5 hours delivery with just gas and air for the 2-7cm contractions. Felt very proud of myself for not having anything else. We were home after 3 days. We had to wait for her to finish a full feed and her blood sugar being okay. She had slight jaundice and the community midwife did a blood test; but everything was fine.
Then on Monday 19th November we was waiting for the beloved health visitor and when she came she wasn't happy with how she was reacting to being held or breathing. The previous Friday I took her to the doctor who said it was a genreal cold and she'll ride it out but the weekend she was okay in herself but feeding she wasn't having any most was an oz every 2 hours or not even that. So when the health visitor phoned our doctor for an appointment asap. She packed her things and went. Then 2 hours later we were in our local hospital in the children's assessment unit with her on oxygen. Her sats were 67 and 80% oxygen before going on it.
We ended up in our local hospital for a week and doctors thought it was bronchilitis but sent for a test for pertussis (whooping cough). So we had to wait for a few more days before the results. During this time Matilda was on nasal tubed oxygen and a glycodrip due to her body feeling so drained from trying to feed. Then after being in for a week the head consultant came to see her and he said they were going to try the CPAP Machine to see if she would get better so whilst setting this machine up she went a horrid shade of blue and about 4 doctors and 6 nurses came rushing into the single room we'd been in. I broke down at the point due to being over tired. No sleep. The beeping of the machines and other children crying etc so I just broke down.
At this point OH was at home with Isaac and a consultant took me into their staff office and said she was going to be ventilated due to her body being so weak and she was getting worse. So this meant we had to be transferred to Manchester Children's Hospital to go into the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit).
When we got to PICU (40 minutes drive from our home), Matilda was settled into a bay and OH and my parents came to see her. The nurse said due to the time (8.30pm) I would have to stay in the parents room within the hospital before they could sort me, OH and Isaac a room at Ronald McDonald Hotel which was across the road from the Hospital. Then the on duty consultant said that it wasn't confirmed but 70% it being whooping cough and it'll just be monitored. We ended up being in MCH for a week, which was so draining. I wasn't looking after myself and I wasn't getting much sleep. Plus me and OH took it in turns to go to PICU and one staying with Isaac in the hotel.
Spending a week at MCH and she was ventilated for 5 days before getting better a little and being sent back to our local children's unit. When back home we spent another week in the children's unit due to her being tubed fed and she got very lazy feeding from the bottle. So I was braking down a lot now and missing OH and Isaac a lot due to stopping at the hospital all day and sleeping there at night. Then we finally got to come home and we've been home for 2 weeks now. Just in time for Christmas. Which was amazing.
Isaac loved unwrapping all the toys and crawling around. He's pooped out bless. Sleeping in till 11am for the last two days!
So yes Matilda Frances made a very diva entry into the world after being home for only 2 weeks before wanting to go back into hospital. We don't know where she caught the whooping cough from which is frustrating me due to her being so small and cant have the jabs etc. Isaac was fine and didn't get anything just teething symptoms due to his top 4 teeth coming all at once.
Now Christmas is over and she's on the mend we have a review at the hospital in February to see how she is getting on. She still has the cough which can last 100 days but she doesn't change colour which is good. That use to scare me when she would go blue. I worried about the lack of oxygen to her brain that may affect her later on but she's fine. She has nicknames which are Tillie Tantrum and Madam Matilda because she has got her lungs back and balls the house down then this ends in a coughing fit and bring a feed back due to getting her knickers in a huge twist but hopefully she's getting there soon
.
p.s. No I didn't get heartburn not once with her when I was expecting her. I didn't find out what we was having and I was positive it was a boy! So a mini surprise when she arrived as a girl and all that hair was there when she was born. Its growing more and more everyday
. For her 6month milestone she'll be having her first hair cut
