I have never been tee total and don't think (unless you drink loads) it makes a huge difference especially when there are identified issues.

Just wondering though, do you know of anyone who gave up drinking and got pregnant??

My next ovulation is around new year. After new yr's eve I'm planning a detox which I think I will find very hard, but new year, new attitude and a stronger, if that's possible, attitude to getting preggo.

If anyone has any stats on how alcohol affects pregnancy rates then I'm all for reading them.

I have no stats to hand but could certainly have a look at some scientific papers (working for a University has its benefits!).

I don't drink much at all as I don't handle it very well anymore (drank like a fish when I was a teenager). I was almost tee total when we first started TTC, maybe one drink/cycle but not usually. Now I'm much more relaxed. I don't go over the recommended max for pregnant women but don't begrudge myself a glass of wine on a weekend. We just made some home-made sloe gin and I'll certainly be trying some.

This has already taken so long, I refuse to let it rule my life anymore than it usually does.

Hi Cooch,

Sorry I don't have any stats either. I did stop drinking completely though when we first started ttc (mind you I'm not a huge drinker anyways, alcohol poisoning put a stop to that when I was at university:haha:).

My dh only drinks at weekends, and that normally consists of a bottle or maybe 2 of wine over the whole weekend. Or maybe a pack of 6 beer.

Anyways, we have been ttc since August 2010, and as mentioned we aren't really big drinkers so I don't think it made a huge difference.

A while ago, we stopped altogether to see if that helped, and it didn't. So now, we kind of figure if we want one, we have one. I kind of think as long as your not downing bottles of vodka every day, it's nto really a problem. Think of all those women who got pg on nights out, I'm pretty sure they weren't tee total at the time!

Yeah I was thinking about those having drunken nights and getting pregnant. I find I'm having a glass of wine most nights which doesn't get you drunk but is probably still too much, its a habit really. Going to try my new year's plan. Thanks girls x

i still drink, i did try to stop for a while and it wasnt the alcohol i missed but i hated getting comments like oh why are you drinking lemonade... something you need to tell us wink wink..

im more of a once a week but 2 or 3 glasses... or more if its a night out and the witches in town (i cant see any point avoiding alcohol when there is 0% chance of an egg never mind a beanie!)

i work as a teacher and id never drink the evening before a class, evn just one drink, just feels rubish even having a tiiiiny hangover, i work 6 days a week so saturday is the only evening i drink on, and if ov is around saturday i usually give drinking a miss... i definatly drink less in the 2ww..

my OH drinks allmost nothing, but lots of red bull... i think that can effect spermies aswell.. im aiming to have a merry christmas (even tho ov is due on the 25th) and then cut down in the new year... we are starting ivf this year, and i want to be in the best health i can , so dieting and no wine for me! it will be worth it if it works!!

Neither my df or i drink much at all! I do have the occasional glass of wine or bottle of beer but haven't been "drunk" in 3 years :-)
To begin with i didn't touch a drop, the last couple of months i have!

I last drank 6 months ago, and that was three archers and lemonades and then I had had enough, I'm really not a big drinker... infact when OH is drinking his cider, I am drinking Rasberry and Cranberry water - Ooo the hard stuff!!!

DH and I don't drink at all so I can't help you out. :(

I'll drink occasionally.. Drank some wine at Thanksgiving, went out last night so I had a beer, but I don't drink a lot and haven't for some time. Like a1b2c3 said, College put a stop to that one

Urgh one of the women OH works with got pregnant after a night of heavy drinking, was sick, threw up her BCP and voila, bun in the oven. She's 43 and wasn't planning a baby at all, but there you go. Baby's 100% fine. That's reinforced to me more than ever that whether I have a drink or not is not going to make any difference.

Like I said, I don't drink much anyway (2 large glasses of wine and I'm tiddly) but I don't abstain anymore.

I guess I didnt really answer the question before - I dont drink because I dont like wine and although I used to enjoy having a few drinks with my friends, I just got bored of it! At all of the events I go to its always free wine but anything else is very expensive so I offer to drive and have my drinks paid for me - I can still have fun without drinking!

I think if I enjoyed it more I would continue to drink because after watching so many "I didnt know I was pregnant" programmes I dont think it is as much of an issue as I once thought, I would never binge though.

What I am trying to say is if you want to have a glass or two with your friends, then go ahead, your life cant stop completely because you are TTC. I choose not to because drinking is just not a part of my life :)
