I thought it would be fun to make a list of names that could be for either. Then put whether you feel they are team pink or blue and your location. On several names in recent posts people feel strongly that a name is either masculine or feminine.

Taylor
Rowan
Finley
McKenzie

Taylor, Finley and Mkenzie all boys names to me!
Rowan mainly girls but can see it for a boy (because of Rowan Atkinson)
I'm from the middle of England!

Taylor - both
Rowan - boy (Rowan Attkinson aka Mr Bean springs to mind)
Finley - boy
McKenzie - both

Taylor - either
Rowan - boy
Finley- boy
McKenzie - prefer on boy

Taylor- Surname
Rowan- Solely masculine
Finley- Solely masculine
McKenzie- Surname

UK

Taylor GIRL
Rowan BOY
Finley BOY
McKenzie BOY

UK, South East

Taylor - either, but more girly IMO
Rowan - either
Finley - boy
McKenzie - girl

from your list i wanted finley for a boy and my middle son is Mackenzie. i know a friend who has a daughter Mackensey.

as with all names i think it depends on the spelling

amylw1...I noticed your baby's name is Blake...it is my husbands name but I went to school with a girl named Blake...seems more masculine to me.

Taylor and Rowan are more feminine to me whilst Finley and McKensie are more masculine. Taylor and McKensie are surnames more commonly though. To be honest though, I think Taylor, Rowan and McKensie can be used for either a girl or a boy, which is one of the main reasons that I discount them when thinking about names!! Riley is another name that I think is very ambiguous- in a series of books I read the primary female character is called Riley but there has also been a male character in Neighbours called Riley so I have a very confused sense of gender with this name. Interestingly both the books and Neighbours are set in Australia!!

Beca

In my opinion and if i choose to call my child these names i would go with the following being Boy or Girl

Taylor - Boy
Rowan - Boy
Finley - Boy
McKenzie - Girl

But i do believe All of them apart from finley can be BOTH ,Finley is deffo a boy, but i rather what ive put above

Newport, South Wales UK x

Personally

Taylor- girl or boy though I prefer it for a boy
Rowan- it just sounds sooo masculine to me lol!
Finlay- I know people use it as a girls name but I think its def a boys name, I don't like naming girls generally masculine names
MacKenzie- its a surname but if I had to chose probably a girl

South east of england and Glasgow
xxx

I think it depends how its spelt...

I'd say
Taylor - boy Tayla - Girl
Rowan - girl Rowen - boy
Finley - boy Finlay - Girl
McKenzie - boy MacKenzi - Girl

I personally think ALL of them can be used for both though. Love Rowan and Finlay for girls. x

Taylor - boy
Rowan - boy, although all rowan's i know are girls
Finley - boy
McKenzie - last name

belgium... none of these names are "normal" for us

discussion reminds me of "jordan", i thought it was a guy's name but aparently
it's more a girl's name or last name in the usa

I'm really surprised! To me calling a girl Rowan or Finlay is like calling her Edward or John:wacko:
