is it easier the second time?

I had an EMCS with my now 4 year old DS. I was really thinking about trying for VBAC. But after speaking with the dr. about the small risk of uterine rupture and the possibility of brain damage to the baby I am thinking about ELCS. I was just wondering is it easier the second time or when its elective? The first time I was in labor for 46 hours, got dilated to 8, and then had the c-section because the baby was in distress. Surely the long labor made recovery harder?

In my experience, the recovery time was the same physically. However, mentally I coped far better the second time.

After my first emergency section, I was so disappointed with myself (several days of labour, got to 10 cms and baby would not come out and was distressed and had to go to special care.)

The second planned section helped me to get over the trauma of the first. I arrived at 7.30am, read some magazines, was visited by different doctors and nurses for prep, then walked to the theatre around 9.30am, had a chit chat with the theatre staff, got to choose some music and within 30 mins had a gorgeous boy. It was such a calm experience compared to the first.

So .. yes it was easier as I coped with everything much better and even with a one year old and a newborn my recovery was much easier (although the pain etc was just as bad!)

Yes I found that my second section was much easier than my first, from the second day when I was up and walking about the pain was way less than first time round.

I tried for vbac with ds2 but failed to progress after being induced as overdue. I did find my recovery much easier after my second c section. As previous posters have said the disappointment of not having had a natural delivery was not the sane the second time and even though my second c section was still an emergency one I still found it much easier.

My doc told me the risks of vbac..sounded more like it was to scare me into a csect. They make more money off csects. I was told the risk of uterine rupture was a low 1-2%!!!

I would like to do a vbac, as recovery time is obviously quicker than having surgery, but have been told the hospital doesn't even do them due to insurance reasonings. If I go in labor, i get an emcs anyways. Sucks.

I've heard enough stories of healing times being quicker second time around, so i'm just going in with positive thinking about it.

With a planned C, at least I wont have to endure the stress and pain part of labor. It will be alot easier I think. I'll find out in 12 days :/

I'll let you know! I have my ELCS weeks today - eek!

First C-S was after a 58hour labour only getting to 4cm's, 2 failed epidurals, they tried to speed things up which caused both mine and LO's heart rates to dip... hence EMCS! My recovery was fantastic! Up and walking around the same day, back to normal me within 2 weeks!
Hoping this time recovery goes just as well :flower:

Please let me know how it goes. GL :flower:

i tried vbac for 2nd pregnancy but ended up with another emcs. i found i recovered a lot faster/easier with the second. i have my third one booked for 2nd

i forgot to add that i also have 4yrs between all my children.

I have a elective csection booked for this monday! I had an EMCS with my first just under 2 years ago due to failing to progress and had a horrendous recovery with an infection. This time Ive been reassured with different stitches and immediate antibiotics to reduce the risk of an infection like last time. Im just hoping with the planned section that everything will be much calmer and relaxed and my recovery will be smooth sailing.... I think it hasnt really settled in that its in 2 days time! Eeeek.. wish me luck and ill keep you updated.
