My mom cooked up a huge batch of Tuna noodle casserole & it smells amazing. She uses about 6 cans of tuna in a crockpot, the rest being filled with noodles & other ingredients. I want a small bowl so badly, but there's such opposite answers online about whether or not its safe to eat canned light tuna. One study said it was alright as long as a pregnant mother didn't consume more than 6 ounces in a week due to mercury levels. Does anybody have any advice?

I read to stay away from tuna because even though 99% of the cans contain no harmful amount of mercury, there can be a can here and there with a higher than average amount in it, which could damage the LO wherever the baby is in development. The article said that it is airing on the side of caution in giving that recommendation and, in all likelihood, you would be fine, but might be worth it to you just to skip out on it. I'm personally dying for some sushi...I feel your pain. At least some fish, like wild caught salmon, is still on the ok list. This list does say you can have a couple of servings a month of tuna and still be ok, but I know that since it says that it contains potentially high amounts, most pregnant ladies steer clear.

Albacore is higher in mercury. A can of Chunk light tuna a week is ok :flower:

I'm sure a small bowl would be fine. I go by the guidelines of 2 cans a week on average when not pregnant, and 1 can when pregnant. Finding sticking to that rule sooo hard this time though, no idea why. I'm just CRAZY for tuna just now, especially with chunky coleslaw - yum :D

When I first got pregnant I was eating a tin of tuna (95gms) every day! Doc says I can have 3 serves of tuna (fresh or tinned) each week so dig in
