Sorry I am a first time parent and breast feeding and hope this hasnt been asked a thousand times in here as its a new section for me. I lived in the pregnancy forums for a long time

I want fish fingers but was told during preg I wasnt allowed them, dont know why but also think I read the same for breatfeeding?

Is there any foods that should be avioded during breast feeding?

No, not really. You might find this website helpful
https://www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/baby/breastfeed/

I avoided peanuts for quite a while but then my h/v told me not to bother so I ate some and kept a close eye on Poppy and she was fine. I watched a breastfeeding programme the other day where the 'expert' said you can eat (and drink) what you like and it will not have any affect on your baby. Nothing wrong with eating a healthy diet if you can though :)

mentions the fish thing in there

Eating fish is good for your health and the development of your baby. But don't have more than two portions of oily fish a week. Oily fish includes fresh tuna (not canned tuna, which does not count as oily fish), mackerel, sardines and trout.

You should avoid eating more than one portion of shark, swordfish or marlin a week, because of the levels of mercury in these fish. This advice is the same for all adults, except women who are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant, who should avoid these fish altogether.

Some breastfed babies seem to react to foods their mothers eat. If you think that some foods that you eat are affecting your baby, don't stop eating them without talking to your GP or health visitor first. But remember, it's normal for breastfed babies to have loose stools.

Cod fish fingers would be ok? I hate seeing any warnings on anything they freak me out lol

Yep, cod will be totally fine. Enjoy!!

Start off eating anything you want, and most people can do this throughout breastfeeding. If you notice your baby is more gassy than normal, vomiting more than is normal, breaks out in a rash, or has a lot of ear infections (contrary to what many people believe, many ear infections are the result of an allergy), then you may want to start trying to figure out if it is something in your diet that is causing it. But otherwise, eat and drink to your heart's content;-)

i just try avoid too much caffeine as it keeps them up! so watch out for drinking coffee , coke and soda late in the day. Alcohol obviously as it goes into our milk and meds.

Cheers girls. Fish fingers for dinner tonight! aint had them since before I was preg. He does fart a lot but always has done from when he came out , think he gets that from his dad. lol

I think all newborns are gassy. It is just their little system getting used to working for the first time, and it does pass. It used to drive me nuts with my son. I eat whatever I want, for a time I found that dairy would upset my son's tummy and he would spit up more. But afer about 6 months that stopped.

I just avoid caffeine and alcohol (I do have the occasional glass of wine though!). Garlic, greens, all the things they say will give baby an upset tummy don't seem to affect my LO.

Simeon gets really gassy... so I have been avoiding too much dairy and it has settled down a little. I had a cheesy pasta for tea last night though and I paid for it today... he's not settled all day :( Most people are lucky though and their little ones don't have any effects.
