I will openly admit that I have learned a LOT about my body and fertility since starting the TTC journey. Don't know if it is like this everywhere, but down here in the South, they teach you your whole life that you can get pregnant at any time basically just by looking at each other naked. (Seriously, I remember pamphlets that said you can get pregnant during your period or from heavy petting with your underwear on!)

Anyway, it should not be a surprise that DH is also totally clueless about how conception actually happens (after the sex part, of course), but we had a really hilarious conversation over dinner this weekend where he learned that it is not in fact, "raining eggs up in my uterus waiting for his sperm." :dohh: He was very shocked to find out that there is only one egg per month and a very small window when I might actually get pregnant. Since he has a whole herd of cousins who all got KU in high school, he thought there was nothing to it!

Well actually you can release more than one egg per month.... just saying :)

I had kind of the opposite where I was taught how getting pregnant works three times but I'm still learning new stuff almost every day it feels like. I never realized how complicated it can be so I feel ya! DH and I had to talk and I said look we have about a week a month this can work out, so when I tell you we have to DTD we need to do DTD lol.

I had no IDEA just how complicated and difficult the whole conception process was before it was something I was actually TRYING for lol. I have a handful of friends who got KU back in high school or shortly after. I got KU when I was 17 after years of unprotected sex with my BF, we really thought I just couldn't after the first few months of it not happening. Back then I didn't even know that you can only get pregnant during a certain window each month. Like your DH, I thought I just had eggs waiting for sperm basically LOL There is so much more to it and DAMN is it tough to make happen when you want it!

Oh - and one of my friends really DID get pregnant with her panties on, around 12 years old. Heavy petting and he ejaculated on her underwear. Literally. She got pregnant and she didn't even have sex nor was she naked. CRAZY! This girl is crazy fertile tho. I think maybe she DOES have a nest of eggs just sitting there waiting in her uterus. She gets pregnant just thinking about a penis. Sorry for the TMI but really tho, I wish I was as fertile as she is!

I agree 100%! I always thought that you could get pregnant anytime, I was never told that it was a very small window each month. We just started ttc this month and I have learned so much already!

Couldn't agree more! I have learned so much...and realized how much I didn't know! Why don't they teach us this in school!?!?

They don't teach us because it's convenient to scare us. Bad though that we are not truly finding out about our bodies until this age .

Maybe they did tell us back in sex ed but we were not really paying attention to those details lol Or perhaps they left out the fact that it can be very difficult to get pregnant because they didn't want to inadvertently encourage us to have unprotected sex thinking we would not accidentally get knocked up! Who knows, but DAMN I think I missed my fertile window this cycle!!!!!! Really digging Fertility Friend and watching my temps change!!! I'm pretty sure I O'd on CD 15 (Sunday Oct. 26) but I wasn't able to get my donor here until last night :( WAAAAY too late. I got him on CD 8 (tooooo early) and 12, which 12 could have been ideal, but I think the sample got too hot before I was able to use it :dohh: Thought transporting it with those little hand warmer thingies was a genius idea to keep it warm but it got waaaay too warm. I wish my donor lived closer!!! It's a 30 minute drive. I would just feel weird inseminating at his house, and it's a lot to ask to have him come here after work every time.

I learned about the small and somewhat predictable window of ovulation while studying equine breeding (out of interest, sadly I don't have the means to do that right now), not from sex ed.

I am in the south too and grew up here! They just showed us pictures of genitalia infected with STDs and told us to abstain until we were married. They didn't really explain condoms or birth control AT ALL, just don't have sex and you won't get a terrible disease or get KU. They even had someone with HIV come in and talk to us. Also made us sign an abstinence pledge...which I didn't follow...whoops. :haha:

Anyway, I totally get it. I've had to educate myself about all of this too. You're not alone!
