Hi, all! After 6 mos of actively trying, we just had our first IUI on 7/18. A bit of background: I am 37 and dh is 41. Other than time not on our side, I have no significant issues...good bloodwork, regular cycles, I ovulate. We have discovered DH has low sperm count and quality. Our RE recommended going straight to IVF but it is soo expensive so starting with a few cycles of IUI first.
Our first IUI cycle is a clomid monitored cycle. Clomid days 3-7. 10 day ultrasound on 7/16 showed 3 follies...20mm, 18mm, 15mm. Ovidrel HCG trigger shot that night and iui 37 hours later on 7/18. DH's post wash count was only 4.71MM with 92% motility. Yikes. Progesterone supplements start tonight. Post iui, I have been crampy and twingy.
I think based on dh's counts, our chances are somewhat bleak, but I am still very hopeful. I have also ordered him fertility supplements. The question is whether we continue with IUIs or maybe we should go direct to IVF. OR, has anyone with male factor fertility considered donor sperm? it seems like such a cost effective way.
I'd love to read your experiences and "meet" those of you with a similar experience!
