Ive been lurking around these threads for ages, feeling depressed that we cant afford to get married (been engaged 7 years together for 8) but we had a chat and decided we just wanted to be married. Weren't bothered about the fancy stuff, cars, outfits, table plans so we have just booked the first available spot at the registry office with 2 witnesses present. Then in a few months or even on our first wedding anniversary we are going to have a church blessing and then a reception after

Good for you. This is what me and OH wanted, but our parents wanted the whole wedding celebration. As long as it makes you happy that's all that matters.
