Quick question,,,,
I love Scotland, I love living here but really, why is our waiting list for nhs ivf 3 years and in England is 3 months, OMG,
What are they thinking???
Sorry rant over, a friend of mines has Endometriosis, and seems to think that because she has this condition it moves her to the top of this list is this true?
And if it is, would a low sa get you moved up? I am not at that stage yet, but i have a strong feeling i will end on that waiting list,

Thanks for any replies :-)

I have PCOS and endometriosis and am on the waiting list for IVF. It's 18 months long in this area (Grampian) and you definitely don't move up the list depending on what conditions you have here - it's a first come, first served depending on when the consultant puts you on the list. The HFEA website is really good at telling you what you can expect in different areas.

I was told before I started TTC that because I had pre-existing conditions that if I didn't get pregnant after a year I could get referred to the fertility clinic rather than the usual 2 years they make you wait if you have no known conditions, so maybe she's got her wires crossed and that's what she's referring too.

I'm Tayside and the waiting list is 15 months at my clinic at Ninewells, Dundee but if you live over the water in Fife it's three years! Weird eh! I tell you, 15 months is too long for me, so I can't imagine waiting 3 years on the list.

Oh and just to make you even worse, if it fails you go back to the end of the waiting list and wait all over again!!!

Thanks for your replies, My friend is going to start ttc after her wedding next year, I am wondering if to tell her, I really don't want to upset her even more because she is extremely worried about fertility,
I did not think there was a jump to the top depending on condition but wanted to ask,
I don't get the waiting list its mad..... My man has low sa we recently found out the doc is requesting another sa and planning to refer is straight after, i am just worried about his sa and the only way forward might be IVF.
What did you mean by if it fails?? Say you get to the top of the list and you allowed 2 attempts? And the first fails you go back on the list to the bottom??? You must be kidding me :-(
When my doc gets back to me with second Sa i plan on asking if i can get reffered to a clinic in the borders? Just simply because of the waiting lists just to see someone, I am hoping she says yes, Have to wait and see,,, going to say i work in the area and plan to move down, Not sure if it works,,,,do kind of work near, its worth a shot,,,eh?

Yes, unfortuantely that's the way it works. If the cycle fails you go back to the end of the waiting list and wait again for how many years. Only other thing to do is pay out of pocket yourself and you'll get to try within 6-8 weeks once all blood tests etc are back.

If you have frozen embryos you can transfer these back usually within 6 months, so not such a huge wait on frozen cycles.

Our Consultant did say if I was planning on moving to Fife make sure I don't change my address! (just because of the different waiting times).

We paid for a cycle ourselves at the start of this year as we had been on the waiting list for 8 months already, we then got to start in June this year with an NHS cycle, so if this fails it'll be another 15 months before I can try again as I've no frozen embryos but I think we'll pay again, one last time ourselves if that happens.

That's interesting about having to go to the end of the queue again - I got the impression that you got 3 back to back. I've got an appointment at the clinic next month, so will check with my consultant. If that's not the case then we'll have to start saving so that we can afford to pay for an attempt in between NHS funded attempts.

It certainly is the case at my clinic. I thought it would be the same everywhere else but I hope I'm wrong.

Emm,,, I have been saving for a few years, and I was planning on buying a new house, The money was for a deposit but when you look at the waiting list its so tempting,,,,makes you think about just paying for it,,,,
