Ok ladies, bit of a long story...
So, on June 6th I passed a rather large kidney stone. Since then I've had nothing but kidney and ureter pain. I scheduled with my OB bc I thought I had an infection, which seems to happen every time I've passed a stone in the past. She tested and found blood in my urine and scheduled me for an immediate full renal ultrasound and a follow up with a urologist. She also put me back on Flomax and Phenzapyridium (?).
My appt with the specialist was this morning and the ultrasound, which isn't very reliable for kidney stones apparently, showed a rather large one in the middle of my right kidney. She took me off the other meds as they won't help bc I can't pass a stone that is 1.3 cm on my own. I'm still in quite a bit of pain and there is still blood in my urine and now some white blood cells.. She wants me to have an IVP which is a CT scan with dye. We have to find out exactly how big this is and if there are more before she can decide the best way to proceed.
Sounds like I'm either going to have a stint put in that will have to stay the length of my pregnancy, have them go into my kidney through my ureter and try to pull it out or they will go through my back into my kidney and remove it.. I'm scared and hurting and know that if this isn't taken care of it can cause me so many issues that can in turn cause our lil bean problems that I have to get it taken care of. But I've always been told x-rays/ct scans are nono's when pregnant.
Any of you have any experience with this? Anyone had to have a ct scan while pregnant?

I've heard if its necessary they can do it while preg
It sounds like that's the case here.
I've never had it done though.
Hugs
Hope its not as bad as they thought
And can help u more easily than they think.
Hugs xx
Sorry not much help but didn't want to read and run xx

If the stone in within the kidney (where they usually form) and there are no signs of back pressure in the kidney (which can be seen on ultrasound) then surely there is time to wait and watch? If there isn't they can stent the kidney temporarily and at that point put a little bit of dye in through the bladder into the ureter (the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder) and see if there are any blockages. For this they usually take a few x rays and will probably put a lead gown over the part of the abdomen not directly visualised. Either way, the kidney will be "safe" with the stent in place (it can still drain past the stone) and that will keep you safe until the baby is born when further treatment like lithotripsy (breaking up of the stone manually) can take place.

I would discuss this further if you're not happy regarding the radiation.

Currently the large portion is in the middle of my kidney, but is flaking off causing pain, blood in the urine and infection. Sigh... I'm calling my OB tomorrow to see what she thinks..
The urologist said the amount of radiation that our lil bean would get would be the same as if I were to fly somewhere.. so that was a bit reassuring, but I'm a stresser on my best days
