As dd is under the lamps I just wish I never got cholestasis and had to have her early!! She was born at 36 weeks and has lost 8ozs, has had low blood sugars and now jaundice. She weighed 6.9lbs at birth, btw. I just hope she gets better soon and I can stop worrying. Just needed to vent I guess...Specially after 4 days of very lil sleep!!

Ahhh, that's tough. My water broke at 35 weeks and dd was born at 35w2d and her bilirubin was very high. I had to rent the little light box (looks like a tanning bed) and keep her in it for the first week home. It was awful. I could only take her out every 3 hours to feed and change her. I was constantly watching her bc those eye goggle things kept sliding off her eyes and I was so worried she'd have eye damage. It was exhausting. I'm sorry you're going thru this right now. Hope your little one is doing better soon. For us, dd came out from under the lights after 5 days and it got better for the both of us. We didn't have the low glucose to deal with too though. I wish you the best and hope all this is resolved really soon so you can get on with just enjoying that precious baby without all the worry.

Feed lots and lots and lots. It will raise the blood sugar and flush out the bilirubin. Jaundice, when it's true physiologic jaundice, which is what most new babies have isn't really dangerous. It's only truly dangerous when it's the result of liver problems (which is likely isn't, though the treat them both the same just in case). The more baby eats, the quicker it will start to flush out. So feed lots and often, we were told every 3 hours at the absolute longest, but more often if she would take it. My daughter was also born on the earlier side, just 37 weeks, but I don't think that had much to do with it. It was really because she struggled to eat to start and she just couldn't get enough milk, in part because she couldn't latch, so I was trying to BF her, plus topping her up with cups of expressed milk and formula for the first 5 days. Also, lots of skin to skin whenever your LO doesn't need to be under the lights will help too. Hang in there. It's really hard. That whole first week is one long stressful blur of a day with no sleep and lots of doctors and midwives stressing us out, but persisting and feeding lots really paid off.

Thanks girls!! We finally got good news that her levels went down .2 points on the bilirubin and she gained 2 whole ozs back!! I'm starting to feel alot better=)
