It's a bit late as jess is nearly a week old but here's my story...

Last Monday (40+2) has a midwife appointment and sweep booked. Off I goes to the midwife with MIL and in the appointment discovers that my blood pressure had gone sky high and there was protein in my waters, along with some feet swelling and visual spots. All symptoms pointed to pre-e so I have my sweep deferred and gets sent off to the hospital. (Cue panicked phone call to oh!) really glad MIL came with me to the midwife as she took me to the hospital and calmed me down a bit!

Gets to the hospital and I'm put on 30 minute OHs for my blood pressure and bubs heartbeat is also checked. My blood pressure was averaging 156/100 so they were a bit worried! Was told they'll monitor it for a few hours and then make a decision on whether to induce or give me BP meds and send me home. Blood pressure remained high so the doctor did my sweep and then made the decision that as I was overdue, they would induce me with Propess, the idea being as its slow release I can get some sleep and then the next morning I'd start getting period type pain.

Pessary went in at 9pm, and I started getting period pains at 9.20! Only mild at first but by 12am they were getting pretty strong! Took some paracetamol at 3am and put the tens machine on at 4am but didn't sleep a wink!

OH was allowed back on antenatal ward at 9am by which point I was 2-3cm and definitely contracting. I was able to breathe through them (and I'd recommend daisy birthing yoga to anyone!) and walked up and down the corridors of the hospital!

At 12pm the contractions were getting much worse (intense rather than painful) but the midwives were ready for me to go to delivery so off I walks to the delivery room. I'm examined and find I'm 4-5cm dilated. Midwife gets the gas and air going for me and I'm put on a tracer (but was allowed to walk around if I wanted, which I was grateful for!) and the pessary removed.

Fast forward the next two hours. Contractions were irregular so the midwife thought I was still a while off, I was in some pretty bad pain! At 1.30 I requested some pain relief and was asked to wait a few more minutes as my contractions were still irregular. At 1.50 I had a mini meltdown (I can't do it etc) and OH requested that I have some more pain relief from the midwife. I think cause he asked that the midwife realised I was struggling. There was a shift change at 2pm so at changeover the new midwife brought the pethidine in once she was sorted and said she just wanted to check me over to see how far gone I was as it can slow things down. I was also getting the urge to push, i couldnt help it! midwife kept saying not to push until she examined me... Only to discover I was 10cm and crowning!!!

I didn't get my pethidine!

At 2.40 I was told I could start pushing if I wanted... 22 minutes and 5 pushes later my baby girl arrived at 3.02pm. I delivered on all 4s over the end of the bed (recommend this position to anyone!) and bubs was passed to me then OH.

I had to be stitched up slightly as I pushed a bit too hard (midwife kept telling me not to push so much!) so I ended up with a second degree tear and 5 stitches. The stitched hurt more than delivery!!!

All in all, a very positive birth. I was slightly gutted that I had to be induced and didn't get to feel "going into labour" but I really couldn't complain too much as my active labour was only classed as 1 hour 22 minutes!

Jessica Rose weighed 7lb 3oz, she opened her eyes as soon as her head was delivered (OH couldn't stop laughing!) and was crying before she landed on the bed!

We had 2 hours of skin to skin and breast feeding before she pooed on me and OH got to clean her up and change her bum! I got my shower and was transferred up to postnatal at 8.30pm.

Struggled with BF for two days before I gave in, LO wouldn't stay latched and went 24 hours without feeding properly so I had to express colostrum and syringe it in. The next day I gave up and bottle fed and the little chunk has been eating great since! I am frustrated I couldn't BF but in our case it really has been the best thing.

We came home from hospital the day after delivery. So far, LO likes to sleep, but I can't see that lasting!
