Jessica Carolyn was born at 42+1 on the 24th October 2012, at 11:17pm weighing 7lbs4oz.

I was origionally meant to be induced on the 21st but the hospital was too busy and understaffed so they rebooked me for the following Tuesday and asked me to come in for monitoring and for a sweep. Went in, blood pressure was a bit high so they asked me to come in again on Monday, they did a sweep, I was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced but she managed to do the sweep unlike my community midwife the monday before. Bp was still high so they decided to keep me in and I was admitted to the antenatal ward. I'd been having pains since around Sunday evening but nothing was happening.

At 6:45 Tuesday morning my waters broke and I was contracting every 10-20 minutes leaking waters with every contraction but apart from that not a lot was happening. At 9pm, I was finally taken down to the labour suite and put in an induction ward, examined (I was still only 1cm) and given a pessery which made my contractions a lot stronger and more regular. At about 3:30am Wednesday morning, after no sleep it was time to be taken down to the delivery room to be put on a drip and I called oh to tell him he could come down. At around 4:30am the drip was inserted. I had the gas and air and managed the contractions well until 10am when the contractions started to get too much, I was examined only to find I was just 2cm dilated, which pretty much tipped me over the edge and I started to lose control. I was screaming my head off with every contraction and I was only using the gas and air in between contractions because I felt sick using it during contractions. I was being monitored throughout the whole thing so couldn't get up and move about to deal with the pain. Oh was brilliant and really supported me, he did annoy me once or twice by telling me to breathe deeply through the gas and air (which I was) over and over again and I shouted at him for that but apart from that he was so supportive and kept mopping my head with a flannel and using the handheld fan to keep me cool. He said he felt so helpless seeing me in that sort of pain and not being able to do anything.

At around 12pm I was screaming for the epidural, after finding out I was only 2cm and the pain being so intense I just couldn't cope with it. It took around half an hour for them to put it in, they had to remove it and reinsert it but it was in eventually, and having to sit there and scream through the contractions was SO difficult. But when it kicked in it was amazing, the pain completely went and all I could feel we're tightenings you wouldn't even know I was in labour after that. By 10pm it was almost time to push, baby's head was at a funny angle in the birth canal so the dr had to get in there and straighten it out, by 10:20pm I started pushing. They had to give me an episiotomy and attatch a suction cup to her head to get her out, but by 11:17pm she was here:cloud9:

Originally I said I wanted to try without the epidural, but I don't regret having it one bit.

Congrats on the birth of your bundle of joy!!

Congratulations again hun, lovely name. I had a pessery at Callums birth too, the pains so intense isn't it? Enjoy your LO xxx

It really is! Especially with waters leaking with every contraction, strangest sensation ever.
