I am almost 21 weeks pregnant and I've just been sacked for being pregnant and have been told I have to leave in 3 weeks and was just wondering if I can get some sort of money until I can get maternity allowance? I cant go from having an income to having nothing :(

You can get this while ever u are fit to look for a job i think its 28 wks or so then it will change to income support x

Income support starts at 29wks or at least it did when i had my 1st child in 2005. Until then then yes you would get jsa as you haven't left the company they have fired you.
I was fired in 2005 for being pregnant & took the company to court for unfair dismissal & sex discrimination, find out there exact reason for dismissing you & pursue this is they are saying it's because you are pregnant.

Thanks, what happened with your case?

You cant get income support if your living with a partner, i didnt anyway!

My OH has a full time job so looks like I wont get income support

If you've worked and earned enough in the previous 3 years you can get contribution based JSA. If you don't meet the contribution conditions though you prob won't be able to get anything as your hubby works xx

yup you can claim jsa till 29 weeks and then IS or maternity allowance if you have earnt enough

as others have said you wont get IS if partner works
have you looked into MA?

ask yr employer for why the are sacking you in writing.. if they say because yr pregnant you have on hell of a case there for sexual discrimmination!!

they're officially saying its because i am a casual worker and no longer needed yet in the conversation with the manager he said i wouldn't be getting smp as ill be leaving in 3 weeks.

check the webiste re maternity allowance www.direct.gov.uk
if you have worked and earned enough you might be entitled to MA. (£123 ish a week for up to 39 weeks)
Also get in writing why they've sacked you, it may help with any claim
also CAB or the job centre are good places to get benefit advice

Ive worked out im entitled to MA but i still need something for the next 2 months

You will be entitled to contribution based JSA for 6 weeks I think. As long as you have paid enought national insurance contributions. You can apply online or over the phone. Do it straight away because they dont backdate.
