Has anyone else eaten junkfood throughout their entire pregnancy (perhaps before the pregnancy or eversince) ???

I feel so so guilty that I haven't been very good at kicking these cravings but daily i crave chocolate, cake, chips, mcdonalds! Aaaahhhh.......
I DO eat fruits and veges though here and there so i'm not a complete junk food freak... but i worry as when i attend mothers group, or look at pregnancy forums, pregnant women always talk about how healthy their diets are and how they completely avoid junk. Am i really the only one with the terrible cravings and habit?? :(

I passed the gestational diabetes test and i'm a healthy weight (quite slim actually).

I haven't taken my prenatal vitamins either as they made me very sick the few times i took them in the first trimester.. I also don't really buy the whole vitamin thing as back in the days i'm sure women had never heard of such a thing and babies came out fine! I don't like synthetic things..

Am i really or have i done my baby any harm ????
I'm starting to really stress now when i realise other preggy women are SO good with their diets!

I am 28 weeks pregnant with a baby boy btw! xx

my diets rubbish i gave up trying a few months ago. i feel bad about it too but its hard to eat well when you feel so rubbish and ive had terrible sugar cravings. i do take my prenatals though. maybe try and start them again now your out your first tri and see how you feel because its important that you get enough iron.

You probably haven't done your baby any harm! But you also still have time to make a change if you are feeling this bad about it. Make small changes and eat healthy through your last 12 weeks. Also, not all vitamins are synthetic. I take an organic prenatal made from fruits and vegetables.

A little treat here and there is no big deal. Eat healthy during the day and reward yourself at night with a dessert!

I am suggesting this only because it sounds like it has been nagging at you for a while. Its only 12 more weeks and not forever!

its not too late to take vitamins you really need to take them. Im lucky this pregnancy im able to take them my last 2 pregnancys i would get so violently sick from taking them.... its most likely the iron thats causing the issue.... What my doctor told me to do since we could not find any vitamins that i could take was to take the flinstones vitamins the chewable ones those didnt make me sick at all and at least i was getting what i needed..... i would def try that..

My diet hasn't really changed. I eat 3 meals a day and sometimes snack on crisps and chocolate. I avoid the danger food were told not to eat but I am no healthier than I was prepregnancy. Occasionally I have a really bad day when I snack on junk food all day but I don't think it will have hurt baby. I'm 39 weeks and haven't been told off by any health proffesionals so far.

My diets been pretty bad throughout I must admit, and I completely went off meat during 1st tri, but I have been taking my pre natal vitamins, I was lucky enough in that they have never made me sick. It is better to eat healthily during pregnancy, but its also better to at least eat something rather than nothing. I agree with pp maybe try taking your pre natals again just to be sure baby gets everything they need, can't do any harm:flower: they're also good for maintaining your iron levels. Just be sure to take them with a meal to decrease the chances of them making you feel sick.

Thank you all ladies :flower: You've made me feel a little better already.
Here in Australia we don't have Flinstones vitamins I don't think... so I will try the option of eating a meal and taking my prenatal vitamins straight after.
*Fingers crossed* ! Would possibly eating them before I go to sleep be alright?
Or is it best in the morning?

I'm going to try my best with sticking to a good diet these last 12 weeks and hopefully after birth too! :winkwink:

Can i just ask and don't mean to be rude but why would fast food give you Gestational Diabetes and what has being slim got to do with it when skinny girls get it too?????????????????

My diet was complete crap and my baby turned out completely healthy and has never been sick in his life.
I think the vitamins are more for you than your baby. Your baby will suck every last vitamin and mineral out of you and leave you with nothing. Before prenatals, women used to lose teeth when they were pregnant due to the vitamin deficiency. I used to take mine at 3am so it was on an empty stomach and I could just sleep through the sickness it caused me.

I take mine with my evening meal, I don't think it really matters when you take it:)

I don't like synthetic things..

This made me smile (in a nice way) you don't like synthetic tablets but you love maccas LOL.
I'm sure you've done no harm but as others said you've still a tri left to make improvements and it's clear it's niggling at you so why not start now? better late than never eh :)

Silverlady - as i'm guess you know GD can be controlled by diet in lots of cases - I read it as the OP saying that the fast food intake wasn't doing her any obvious harm ie she isn't compounding GD with her diet (because she tested ok) and isn't obese from it.

Your baby will get first dips on the goodness in your food and as they only need a teeny amount he'll be fine!

You on the other hand would probably feel a load better if you ate healthier, I know if I eat badly for a few days in a row I feel really crap. Third tri is hard enough as it is, I'm trying to give my body all the help I can!

I didn't imply that fast food gave you gestational diabetes I was just adding on to my concern just a little background information on my health.

Also, the "slim" factor was not related to the gestational diabetes comment, I was again, simply just adding a little background info.

Hahahaha! I was actually thinking that as I typed the whole synthetic thing :P That's why i HATE my junkfood cravings.. I know they're bad but I just love the taste. Vitamins on the other hand, taste disgusting so I am able to resist :P lol.
Thank you for your support I am definately going to try my best :)

Also, thank you for understanding the gestational diabetes and slim thing. I meant that exactly and I just thought I'd type up some background info on my health since I was discussing my diet concerns. :)

My diet hasn't exaclty been all fruit and veg.. and I have ate the same as what I did pre-pregnancy apart from the danger foods they tell you to avoid.

I haven't taken pregnancy vitamins.. and the midwife hasn't advised me to take them. Like other people have said, years ago people didn't take them. The only thing I have had issues with is iron levels.. but I have since found out that they were low when I first had my bloods done.. They were 10 and should be 11.5 and they have dropped to 8. So I would say that is down to the healthcare professionals not doing their job properly.

I am not the slimmest of people and even with my normal way of eating and drinking fizzy sugary drinks the night before my diabetes test. I passed this.. with the testing that they do nowadays blood tests etc. If you were lacking something then this would be picked up in your tests. Apart from the low iron levels all my bloods have been perfect. xx

I'm pretty healthy and take my vitamins every day.I agree with the others that you should try take them going forward. Mine make me feel sick too but I find taking them in the middle of my meal works best, usually at lunch. I eat half my lunch, take my pills, then eat the rest.

Good luck hon!

The only things I've done to be more healthy is eat regularly. I never had breakfast or ate much for lunch and ate at weird times. Now I make sure I have breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I eat veggies and a lot of home cooked meals but...

I only took folic acid for about 2 weeks at the start because it made me be sick. And I have eaten A LOT of junk food during this pregnancy. Far too many Mcdonalds. However I have only put weight on my bump really and not much weight on, baby is on the big side but not too big and they think he's a very health weight for his age.

I've been good in avoiding alcohol and the foods your meanna avoid, but I just couldnt kick the junk food lol

Ooh on another note my iron was low, so they put me on pregaday which has folic acid and iron in it so I don't feel too bad now lol.

Throughout being pregnant with my 3yo snd now being 35weeks, ive only ever been told to take folic acid for the first tri....... So iv never had pregnancy vitamins?
