Hello,

Following on from over a year of properly trying and many years prior to this of not trying but not using contraception as a happy accident would have been welcome in our marriage we finally have some answers after seeing a fertility specialist last week. After lots of bllod tests, two semen analysis tests the specilaist has now diagnosed PCOS. As I have regular periods and have done since starting my periods age 12 this hadn't crossed my mind. I'm also not a hairy person and not overweight so again didn't think I had the signs. Anyway it seems I knew little about the condidtion and I do have the adult acne, tiredness and feel really sick if I go too long without eating. The specialist thinks that although I am ovulating the egg is being released slowly therefore the quality of the egg reduces by the time it could be fertilised. He has therefore started me on a course of Metformin and would like to do another blood test before starting me on Clomid. The Metformin is already making me feel very sick in the evening, I'm taking the slower release version and currently only taking one in the morning but need to increase to take another in the evening in 10 days time. As this is all pretty knew to me I wanted to see if there are other things such as diet I should be changing to increase our chances and also if there are other things I should or shouldn't do.

Any help appreciated.

Hi! Sorry about your diagnosis, I just got diagnosed too, but I haven't been trying for very long. I'm in the same boat as you, the only reason I went to the doctors was because I was ttc and tracking my bbt after stopping bbt and found I wasn't ovulating.

I don't think there's much that you have to change while I'm on metaformin, my doctors only prescribed 500mg with breakfast - I've found if you have it in the middle of your breakfast, the nausea won't be that bad.

Have you investigated options like soy isoflavons and accupuncture? I think that's the next step that I'm going to take if the metaformin doesn't work.

Good luck - I know it's hard with pcos but at the same time it's reassuring that you now know why you are having difficulties. Happy to chat!

I also have PCOS and I don't know if your doctor made you aware, but women with PCOS are at an increased risk of diabetes. Because of this you should probably eat a low glycemic index (GI) diet. Everoptimist, did your doctor perform an ultrasound to diagnose you?

You can read about my experience with PCOS on my blog

Feel free to ask me any questions about it. I hope this helps a bit.

I agree with green turtle. Also, and I know you're not overweight, but regular exercise helps as well. I was diagnosed with that and really started to believe they were wrong because of the reasons, I really didn't have any signs and all of my tests kept coming back normal. I was Oing fine...regularly every month, not overly hairy, always had clear skin...I mean no signs at all so I figured they misdiagnosed, but I think it's different for everyone. So diet and exercie to help, but I have also seen a lot of women on here get preggo while on metformin, because pcos and diabetes, metformin is used for this as well, can be closely related...the whole insulin reistant thing. I never took it, but it can help.

Hi,

I was diagnosed in June 2012, after 3 miscarriages. I still haven't had any treatment what so ever as I have fallen pregnant on my own, so they wont help at all even though we have been trying for 18 months

I've tried soy isoflavones this month and accupuncture. Accupuncture works wonders for stress but I still don't think I ovulated this month.

I'm in the same boat as you, no other symptoms really. Did they do an internal scan to confirm?

I was just diagnosed with pcos as well...along with my other issues...my doctor tested me for diabetes and I DONT have any sugar problems thank goodness! But our next step is to do an hsg...and then talk about metformin...I always took my clomid when I tried it at night so I wouldn't really feel the side effects...but I still had some...I Hate clomid...messed with my mind and body! Good luck everyone! Hope we get our bfps soon!!

i'm on metforminER also, i'm supposed to be taking 2000mg per day but have only made it up to 3pills so 1500mg. I forgot my pills at home and went out of town for a week so i started back at 2 or 1000mg a day.. i take mine at night together.. i dont' spread them out. my only symptom is if i eat like fast food or anything high in fat or sugar, i will be in the bathroom.
