Hi

We were told last week that we are being referred to St Marys Hospital in Manchester for ICSI.

I was just wondering if any other ladies have been treated there or know of someone that has. I am very confused/frustrared at the moment and dont really know what to expect now.

I am in Blackpool so under Lancashire PCT. Do we have to just wait to hear from them about how long we will wait for funding or will we get an appointment to go to the hospital first??? We have had a number of tests already done, I am thankfully ok but hubby's count is less than 1M due to trauma or injury in his teens.

Am I being optamistic in thinking we will be starting treatment in a few months????

Any advice would fantastic.

Does anyone have experience at this hospital???

Hi, I was referred and had my first appointment within 2-3 months, they did a scan, amh testing and the usual blood tests, which I had already had done, but they like to do their own. My consultant says there is no real waiting list, so I think you might be right about it being quick. In the end didn't end up needing treatment, so I can't advise you about anything further than this, but wanted to wish you good luck. X

Forgot to say, they may want another sperm sample from your oh, which didn't add too much to waiting time. X

Hello Sweet

I can not urge you enough not to use them, they are exstremely slow and unproffessional hun. I live in Chorley and decided to be referred to Liverpool Womens Hospital after hearing and then experiencing how slow St Marys is and was.
If you need any further help or assistance please message me, I will try to help. I know how difficult it is to deal with doctors and hospitals.

I must say that Liverpool has better success rates than St Marys

They also have no waiting lists and are very speedy unlike St Marys

We have just finished our 2nd cycle of icsi,I fell preggers both time unfortunately I MC the first cycle. Last night I found out that my 2nd cycle has also delivered a posative result...............just praying my embies are stickers.

I hope you dont mind me being so blunt in my opinion but I would never recommend them to anyone. If i was you ask your Doctor to refer you to Liverpool Womens Hospital.......its your choice

please keep me posted hun

all the best
Nat x

Thanks for your replies girls.

First of all a massive congrats to you both :happydance::happydance: sorry to hear of your losses and I hope you both have a healthy prenancy

Please be blunt, I would rather know. TBH I have heard bad things about St Mary's. The specailist didnt mention that any other hospital was a possibility, she just said she would write to St Marys. I am so confused, dont know what to do for the best and I am unable to call FS as there is just answer phone saying they are on holliday

Natp18, did you have your first round at St Marys?? When you say they are slow, how long did you have to wait from being referred to treatment? I am so scared of doing the wrong thing. Was you under the same PCT?

Aw Hun don't worry

I was originally transferred to St Marys as Chorley/Preston don't offer IVF

I found I was waiting ages and even the admin staff at St Marys admitted they had a bit of a bad back log due to staffing issues. St marys also slow the process down as they don't use any of the results that have been got from your hospital.

I told my gynae doc at Preston I wasn't happy and he said it seems St Marys has gone down hill in recent years. He informed me that Liverpool was a option so we opted for them. With in a week of them recieving my referral from Preston I was booked in and started treatment within 3 weeks.... They are fab!!!!

If I was you, I would call your Gynae Doc and ask him to refer you to Liverpool Womens. They also have a higher success rate too.

Liverpool sort all ya pct funding out, you do nothing Hun

As Liverpool is part private and nhs it's a lovely new state of the heart clinic unlike grotty st marys

Big hugs
Nat x

Its hubbys specailist, Urologist thats making the referral so I might call them next week and find out what the score is. We are about 10 miles the other side of Blackpool and manchester and Liverpool are the closest to us.

I have tried to find sucess rates for Liverpool but cant, they arent on the HFEA website. Did you find any anywhere?

Are you under Lancaster PCT as well?

I cant beleive you were treated within 3 weeks, you have made my night hun. Just wish I could call the hospital right now, I want answers hehe.

Thanks for all your advice, really wish you the best :hugs:

Nat is right about St Marys stats and I have also heard good things about Liverpool ( Leeds too if that is any good for you)? I was really worried about that after I was referred, but as I had already seen the consultant privately, I decided to stick with it. Congrats to Nat - wishing you an uneventful 9 months and I am sorry to hear about the loss of Lillie and your tiny angels. I lost twin girls at 22 weeks and have had 2 early mc since. X
Wishing you lots of luck, I hope you get your bfp soon. X

Tinks85 - I would really love to join you on this journey, it sounds like we are at about the same stage. Me and DH have been referred to Bourn Hall Clinc on the NHS for IVF our first appointment is 3rd march. Any help we can offer each other will be great.
Chase and Nats - congrat I wish u all the best.

Thanks again girls.

I would love to join you Please. We haven't got an appointment yet. How long did it take you to get an appointment after being referred?

I dont know about you but it all feels a bit unreal to me but slowly taking things in, just dont really know what happens first or when things will start happening.

I do know one thing though, it will all be worth it

Where abouts is Bourn Hall Clinic???

Tinks - I will run through how the process has gone for us so far, I had all blood tests, internal examinations, and swabs done at our doctors surgery and an scan of ovaries and DH s/a done at the hospital. Our GP then referred us to the fertility centre at Addenbrookes hospital Cambridge in Dec 09, we had our first appointment Jan i had a then HSG performed in Feb a follow up appoinment in May and a final one in Nov which is when they said they would complete the referral. both myself and DH needed to have blood tests for hep b and c and HIV and i needed an unto date clamydia swab, we had this all complete a couple of weeks ago and the referral went off to Bourn Hall Clinic, it's just outside of Cambridge and is only 20mins from our home it was where the first ever IVF was performed. I called Bourn hall just before Christmas and they confirmed referral was received and we had been booked on the first group seminar for the 3rd March, to then see the consultant 2/3 weeks later for treatment to begin April/may.

Sorry the above is not wrote brilliantly and is a little clinical, but thought you could see what parts you've done and maybe see how close you are too an appointment. I completely here you, it is surreal, I find it quite upsetting but if we need a little help theres nothing wrong with accepting it. Think what we'll have at the end of it. I do remember when I first rang Bourn hall they said they have to see you with 16 weeks of receiving the referral.

Chin up, I'm sure all will become clear don't be scared to ice up the phone and get some answers.:hugs:

Thanks Please, you are a star!!

I think our next step will be the info group thing then. I had bloods done with my GP and hubby did a SA. His SA was really low so they referred us the the FS at our local hospital. I then had more bloods done, swabs, internal and a Hycosy (thats like a HSG, if you dont know) and hubby did another SA. I have the all clear but hubbys was no better  The specialist was hopefully sending the referral last week to St Marys in Manchester. Its going to be about a 4hr round trip for each visit!. I have to call our local hospital next week as hubby had some bloods done to check his hormone levels and we want the results, I will check then.

It is very upsetting. I have days were I am fine and laid back but then others where I can just get upset over the slightest thing. I tend to be in tears over little things now as well and obviously shed more then a fair few over TTC. I guess its all the emotions built up inside.

I hope the 16 week rule is for all clinics.

It helps a lot to know we are not the only ones and they are other people in the same boat :hugs:

Tinks - glad I could help sweetie, I would suggest giving the department that were doing your referral a call on Tuesday and asking if the referral has been sent off, if it has call st marys and ask if it has been received and if so when you will be seeing someone. Both Addenbrookes and Bourn hall have been really helpful and don't mind being called, I'm sure it will be the same for you.

Im sure the 16 week rule is for referrals through the NHS so you should be covered.*

Have you got anything to focus on in-between now and treatment starting? I think it's really good to have something else to focus on, otherwise we drive ourselves mad?

I would like to get my BMI down to the normal range as it is a little over its currently 28, I am 11.7st, I would like to lose 21pnds in 12 weeks bringing me down to 10st and BMI 24 normal. I have read high BMI can impact chances of IVF. I am joining weight watchers as back in 2004 I lost 2 stone on it. Me and DH have are also buying treadmill and cross trainer and are going to do half an hour of exercise each*a day we do none at the moment, DH BMI is perfect at 20 (hate him.lol)

I'm glad we found each other and can support each other through this journey.

Forgot to say, I see you use CBFM, me to! I've requested you as a friend on FF. Weird I ovulated CD17 this month and I am currently 11dpo, maybe a miracle will happen and we both get our BFP this month, if we don't have hope we have nothing.

Our lives are quite freakishly simular lol

I am planing on getting my BMI down and starting WW in Jan. Its is now 29 and I am about 11 stone but a short arse :haha: We are going to get an exercise game for the PS3 move and do that a few times a week. Will try and go for a little walk each day in my lunch time as well.

I will call Blackpool Vic on Tuesday, it will 2 weeks then since we saw the specialist. We have had Xmas in the middle though.

I am pretty sure i ov'd on cd17 but forget to test the day I expected my peak :dohh: time will tell.

I just hate all the waiting.

We should never give up hope and we can always dream.

We can keep each other sane :hugs:

Well hun your BMI is under 30 so you will be fine for treatment. I had to loose 6 stone before they would treat me ,which I did within 6 months it was very hard though but worth it now

all the best hun I know how difficult it is to loose weight

hugs

We are really similar, maybe we were meant to find each other.
I loved WW when I did it before, I liked that there was nothing you couldn't eat as long as you added the points up, I've heard they've changed the plan a bit, got my first meeting on Wednesday so guess I will see then.

Haha u remind me of my sister when u call urself a short arse, my big sis is only 5ft 1 and I always call her short arse I'm 5ft 5.

Don't talk to me about the PS3...that thing will drive me to divorce.lol (hubby is mad for FIFA) I just remembered I also brought Janine from Eastenders fitness DVD as it had awesome reviews, I must dig that out and give it a try.

Check us out getting all revved up, new us for the NY and then New babies :happydance: I just told DH to say good bye to this arse cos a newer skinnier one is n the way.haha:happydance:

We can indeed, fingers crossed your referrals been received on Tuesday...then your on the move. How old r u and DH if u don't mind me asking?

Can't remember if I said my names Abby, lotsnof positive vibes for us both :hugs:
