This is sooo stereotypical I'm almost embarrassed - but - how many dill pickles is too many? I've been sticking to three pickles a day for fear of ill effects of some sort..but sometimes I want more! My blood pressure is quite low right now, so I'm not too worried about the sodium - but this seems like a whopping dose of sodium! Does anyone know or have the same silly 'problem'?
 
I think it depends on the size of the pickles you're eating. The recommended limit for sodium is 2,400mg per day and your average small dill pickle has around 300-400mg, so as long as you're not going salt-crazy in the rest of your diet a few small pickles probably isn't a big deal. The bigger ones can each have 1100+mg of sodium though, so I would take it easy on those.
 
Oops. I forgot about sodium. I ate a whole jar a couple of weeks ago!
 
I have been eating pickles like crazy, I had no idea that I should be limiting them. Baby has been fine at all my ob visits and my blood pressure has not been high.
 
A high-sodium diet isn't going to instantly increase your blood pressure, but it is something worth keeping an eye on in the long-term since it can put you at risk for serious heart and kidney problems down the line.

And to clarify, the sodium recommendations are the same during pregnancy as they are the rest of the time - it's not like being pregnant means you suddenly have to cut back. But most of us are probably eating over the advised limit to begin with! Even without pickles or other obviously salty foods I know I have days where my intake is at around 4000-5000mg; I just try to make sure that doesn't happen every day :shrug:
 
I didn't know we were supposed to limit them either! I've been going crazy eating pickles. Haha. I love them!

I've got REALLY low blood pressure (Borderline hypotension) so I should probably add pickles to my diet :D

YUM!!!

3 a day of a regular sized pickle sounds totally reasonable. I'd even say up it to 5 a day :D

YAY for 5 a day! LOL (I have gone for 5 in one sitting, including a few guilty sips of pickle juice!)
 
Lol. I had a pickle binge a few months ago and haven't thought of them since. Now I really want pickles. I also just got done eating an icecream bar. Darn I should have saved itto eat with my pickles! Lol
