Hi

Im new here lol i have been trying four years I've been on clomid which made me ovulate however my partner has a problems with his sperm count and mobility. I started on Metformin on the 19/6/15 to prepare for starting IUI (Artificial insemination).

Has anyone else got any stories about IUI. Ive been told if i produce to many follicles they will have to stop the treatment as more than 2 is dangerous. This is worrying me, how i will take having the procedure aborted because of too many follicles.

Has anyone got any Metformin or IUI stories to share :)

Sorry I don't have anything to share but wanted to say that I hope it goes well for you! Good luck!

I don't know anything about having too many follicles as I haven't been down that road yet but I am taking the liquid version of Metformin called Riomet, but that's only to lower my testosterone levels. May I ask why Metformin is needed for an IUI?

My 3rd IUI I was going to do injectables + trigger but ended up going to IVF. My doctor had given me the talk that with injectables (ex. Metformin) and IUI you may get a lot of follicles. Some doctors may cancel cycle, so they will just have to figure out what dosage is good for you (which could take a cycle or two), but that can also lead down a frustrating path to do the work on the shots and then it cancel. My doctor would have been willing to not cancel, but we were going to have to be open with eliminating some if too many fertilized for safety reasons. My doctor also says our best success of getting pregnant with IUI is using the injectables + trigger, vs. clomid, ect.
Good luck! Hope it works out for you!

Hi hun, i am a little unsure about why i am merformin to prepare for IUI. He told me it was to bring my insulin levels down (which i didn't understand) and to regulate my periods so they are approx 28 days (but i explained they already are) I just did what they told me we are so desperate for a baby that we will do whatever it takes x

Hi hun, yes i have been told about them cancelling the cycle if too many follicles take. I am worried about this because as you said its very frustrating going through everything to then have it cancelled. I am praying i have 1 or 2 follicles and it take first time :) i have already been on clomid for a year i ovulated but my partner still had problems with sperm mobility. Did your IVF work? that is what i will be having if IUI doesnt work for me x

still don't know if my IVF has worked in tww. I have only heard of women who have PCOS take Metformin. Does your doctor think you have that? If he thinks you do I hear it helps people with PCOS get pregnant! My advice is if your at your highest frustration level of trying only try 1-3 IUI and move onto IVF if you can. Its a tough journey.

Hi hun yes i have PCOS, sorry i should of put that! Oh good luck! Thank you for the advice. Hopefully it will work for me :D x

I had 8 follicles one cycle and opted for a follicle reduction which was only a couple of hundred pounds and fairly painless. Didn't work however as they discovered later I have several large polyps. Is IUI a good idea if there are issues with your partners sperm though? Maybe they would let you have up to three if you asked them to take the issues into account. They allowed me three due to my age (40) and I was with a very reputable clinic. Wishing you lots of luck and an easy journey x

Hi hun, oh dear :/ i thought the same with IUI i thought it wouldnt be the best for our situation but i think they are trying this and if this doesn't work i will be having IVF. Thank you for wishing us luck : )

So... i am currently on day 3 of my injections, have a scan next week to see if they have worked (fingers crossed it has) then we will have the IUI procedure which we all pray will work for us :D
