Just Ted

My husband and I have fallen in love with the name Ted. Just wondered what people's opinions are?

And yes...just Ted, not Edward or Teddy or Theodore..just plain Ted! (Sorry, just so many people ask!) x

Ted was our no1 boys name but we were going use Edward on birth certificate.
I fell in love with it aNd then back out of love, it's getting too common for my liking.

I think it's cute but it's definitely a nickname to me. I'd prefer to have a more formal name to fall back on as well.

OH wanted to use it this time if we had a boy (but we had a girl instead) and I just couldn't go along with it so I said he could call him Ted but it would have to be Theodore on birth certificate (our existing DS middle name is Edward)

If you like it though then go for it!

I like Ted... would still take a full name though.... like Theodor, Theophil or Teobald (if you don't like to use the greek "theo" for "God", this would be a good choice... the "Teo" on "teobald" means "people" or "folk")as the birth certificate name.

Thanks for all your feedback ladies. Seems like Ted has divided opinion. I have taken on board all your comments but I think we're going to stick with "just" Ted. We both love it and don't see the point in using a longer name just purely to but on the birth certificate especially if we don't like any of the longer forms x

I have a "nickname name" that I love but not really any of the long name options. It's Maggie but I don't love Margaret, Marguerite, Magda, Magdolen, Magnolia, Magalie, Magpie. So I felt I had to remove it from my list...

I love Ted but would probably want him to be Theodore on his birth cert (mostly because I love Theodore!) That's just me though.

However I have a Bella and I got that alot when she was born, people asking if her full name was Isabella. Nope I just loved Bella on it own.

Glad you came to a decision you're happy with! I have a 'nickname' as my full name, and it's never bothered me in the least. In fact, I like it that way...probably why I had so many 'nicknames' on my name list when I was pregnant, lol.

Incidentally, I'd totally name a kid Maggie as their full name. I think it's cute, and still sounds fine for an adult.
