Sorry to post in here but no one is viewing the health section and I need some advice asap.

I've been on antibiotics for a kidney infection since wednesday. It's a five day course so my last tablet will be tonight.

The problem is that my symptoms haven't gone, in fact I'm now getting left kidney pain as well when it was originally just in my right.

Has anyone here suffered kidney infections? How long did it take you to recover? What treatment did you require? I'm worrying myself sick here as can't get to the Dr until tomorrow. I'm not sure I can cope another week feeling like this and looking after a boisterous toddler by myself

Thanks x

I haven't but my Mum did and it took around 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it, like you after the first course she felt worse rather than better. I'd book an appointment with the GP tomorrow and see what they say.x

Last time i had a kidney infection i ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics as oral ones just would not get rid of it. Id get back in with your doctor tomorrow, hope you feel better soon:hugs:

What did they give you? In my experience they need a strong antibiotic/iv drip, I had kidney infections constantly and ended up in hospital having an emergency nephrectomy about 3.5 years ago, can you go to the emergency docs at all?

Thanks for your responses girls. I can feel myself getting worse, even since I posted this morning. I just want to sleep constantly, my temp is all over the place and I feel like I've been punched in the back. The pain is awful.

I've been given Trimethoprim, a 5 day course. Last tablet will be in the morning. I have no idea if this is a strong antibiotic or not as the last time I had a kidney infection was when I was 13.

I will be calling the GP first thing and they are very good at getting you seen if it's an emergency. No emergency out of hours doctors around here anymore. It's the walk-in centre or wait until GP surgery is open. My LO is in bed and there's no one to watch him.

It's so hard being ill with a toddler in the house!

Its not what I used to have, the name escapes me now  But it is what I get given now when I get signs of possible infection, as my remaining kidney dosent work to great if I feel an infection I have to have them asap so I presume they are fairly strong

Just get yourself back their tomorrow, understand you cant get LO up and out of bed, especially as you can really do without him grumpy right now when you dont feel great.

Big hugs hun :hugs:

She's given me a 14 day course of strong antibiotics in the hope it'll do the job. There's still nasties in my urine so the other antibiotics obviously didn't touch it. If i'm still unwell or get worse then she said it's likely i'll need to be admitted for IV antibiotics. Not a happy bunny really...

I had a awful one a few months back and it did take a change of antibiotics to get rid of it. I've never ever felt so terrible as I did when I had it :( I had my 2 children to look after and also have this one growing so it was mega hard :nope:

You may need the IV antibiotics. x
