Hi everybody! I wasn't feeling right on Sunday, so I went to the doctor to get a headache checked out. Turns out my blood pressure was 180/110. Needless to say, I was sent to the emergency room. They said I may have severe pre-eclampsia, but that my blood pressure would have to remain that high for a 6 hour span or more (plus the headache that wasn't going away). My blood pressure an hour later was 193/120, so the doctor told me that I was having the baby because it was too dangerous to sit around and see how things might go. They said that the placenta would detach itself and basically kill the baby. I was also at very high risk for having a seizure that would also kill the baby. They decided to put me on a drip medication and induced me. After 20 hours I only dilated 4 cm with the help of the bulb. My contractions were 30 seconds to one minute long and less than 30 seconds apart. Due to my back condition they decided that I would not be getting an epidural. I almost passed out from the pain and suddenly stopped reacting to the contractions and closed my eyes. The doctors said that I was going to be having a c section because the baby appeared to be in distress and I just kept getting worse. I got a spinal block and laid on the table waiting to feel the infamous pressure. I didn't feel anything and suddenly my husband was by my head holding the baby. I never heard her cry, but it turned out the medication to control the blood pressure (magnesium) can dull the strength of the baby's lungs for days. They rushed the baby to the NICU because her breathing was so labored. I was on bed rest for 24 hours after delivery, so I could just look at pictures my husband took for me. When I finally got to see her she was on an oxygen mask and still fighting to breathe. I broke down and sobbed untilp I had nothing left. I know that there are plenty of babies that are worse off, but I felt like everything was my fault-especially trying to deliver vaginally while on magnesium. I don't know that anybody told me it was so dangerous. I finally got to hold her yesterday. It was the exact opposite feeling than what I felt when I first saw her in the NICU. We are doing skin to skin car and it brings my blood pressure wy down while decreasing her struggle to breathe. She is doing so much better, but it took some steroids for her lungs and the oxygen mask forcing her to breathe. She will probably be there for another 2 weeks, but I am okay with it so long as she is getting healthier and stronger. I am still on bed rest in the hospital and the most difficult thing is not being able to have a nurse just bring me my baby. Other women in the ward wander the halls with their babies and I have to get wheeled across the hospital. I am only allowed to leave bed if my blood pressure is low enough. I so wish I could just lay in bed and hold her, but she still needs her oxygen.![nope :nope: :nope:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/nope.gif)
Anyway! She was born 5 weeks early and weighed 6 pounds And 13 ounces. The c section was really no big deal. I was walking around 2 days after. The kicker is that I got bored while they were taking out the placenta and stapling me, so I fell asleep. I had no pain for at least 24 hours after the surgery and I have had no desire to take any pain medication for what pain I have had. The beds aren't great, but a pillow from home helps a lot! I still can't believe my baby is here! I thought for sure I would just get sent home with blood pressure meds. Never dreamed that my munchkin would be here so fast!![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
