YAY! Baby Dominic-Harvey is here!
Okay, so on the 15th I went for a sweep, I was already 1cm dilated and started getting contractions later that day! I went to hospital at 10pm on saturday night, when my contractions were every 2-3 minutes apart, I got sent home because I was still only 1cm, I went back to hospital at around 3am sunday morning, my contractions slowed down but I had opened to 3cm.
I got sent from maternity triage where I'd been for what seemed forever, up to a ward where they keep people in early labour, or people having complications, or just to generally be kept an eye on during their pregnancy, after a few hours there, I was examined (for the millionth time!) to find out I was 5cm and could finally go down to the delivery suite. Bearing in mind, my contractions were rather strong all morning/day, so I had asked for gas and air in maternity triage, at 7am, and still hadn't received any by 3/4pm. So, I was absolutely furious.
When we got down to the delivery suite, the midwife (who was the best there, and by far the most understanding and calmest) filled the pool up, and let me jump in. I went about an hour or two without gas and air, then finally decided to get some. By now, I'd been in labour since friday night, had no sleep, and barely had anything to eat, so my mum went and got us some food, and I just lay in the water waiting.
About half an hour later I started singing... because I was so bored.
The midwife was absolutely shocked and said that if someone walked in the room at that very moment, they'd never have guessed I was in labour.
My temperature kept rising, and the sister of the delivery suite told my midwife to take me out of the pool, so she did. She then examined me, and I was still 7cm, (the same as I was when I got in the pool.) My waters still hadn't gone so she broke them for me, which took me by complete surprise, because she still had her hand up there while she did it!
Thats when the contractions really started hurting, and I was refused access to the pool again, so I started crying (the first and only time I cried whilst in labour) and asked for some other form of pain relief.
I didn't want the epidural because I thought people would think I was weak.
After about another half hour, I accepted the epidural.
The anesthetist was awful, he almost messed up big time, and was so rough!
After I had my epidural, I had the drip in my hand, and an catheter put in (it was soooooooo uncomfortable.)
A few hours later (early hours monday morning -MY BIRTHDAY! )
I had opened up to 10cm.
The midwife looking after me then (a different one to before) said she'd leave me an hour, before they got the surgeons in to do an instrumented (think thats the right term) delivery, well what I didn't know, obviously with this being my first time in labour, was that I wanted to push while I was in the pool, but I was mistaking it for needing a poo.
So I'd been wanting to push for hours, and hadn't been doing.
I started pushing 10 minutes before the surgeon came in and was pushing for quite a while, by around 5 to seven, or at about 7am monday morning, I had two surgeons and a whole bunch of other people in the room, and a suction (kiwi) cup ready to pull him out.
Before they put the suction cup on his head, one of the surgeons found a cyst inside of me, and left it until after he came out.
By 7:06am on monday the 18th of february, my little prince was born!
Then came the worst part.
The female surgeon that gave me an episiotomy when I didn't need one, had cut too far either side, and I started loosing ALOT of blood.
The male surgeon had popped the cyst, and was trying to stop the bleeding, and sew me up.
While the female surgeon had messed up so bad she made it worse by just taking her time trying to think of where to sew first.
After I had been sewn up, and cleaned up abit, I came to, and was helped onto another bed to be taken into the Higher Care/High Dependancy unit.
I started panicking after passing back out, the coming too again, when I found a woman almost posting tubes into my nose and all around my head!
I passed back out a few times, but when I came too properly, I finally managed to stay awake, this was around noon, on monday.
At 6pm my mum and dad came visiting, bringing a whole bunch of congratulations and birthday presents to my bed side.
My nana and grandad then came with even more! I was out of the Higher care suite on the 19th in the morning, and was put on the postnatal ward, we were kept there for a while because Dominic was having trouble feeding.
He was just being lazy.
We were discharged on wednesday night.
I've had stitches inside AND out.
Now my prince is feeding brilliantly and we're so glad to be back home! :D
