I want to join tomorrow - my diet has really gone out of the window for the whole of December and it's not for weight loss but just to make sure I'm eating a safe, healthy diet for my baby.

However feel a bit self conscious about walking in with my big fat pregnant belly tomorrow. Were you welcomed, did people look at you oddly?

:hi: My mum does the social team at Slimming World after reaching her target, she lost a massive 8 stone! She says that there is several pregnant women goes to her class and they are welcomed and no one makes them feel out of place, she also mentions the support the women get for sticking to a healthy plan that benefits the baby! :flower:

I went to slimming world before I became pregnant (lost 4 and a half stone in 8 mths! Whoop) I don't remember any pregnant ladies joining our group, but I think all the girls there would have been very welcoming. I have continued to follow much of the slimming world theme, however I have still put on quite a bit of weight. The reason I decided to stop when I became pregnant was because I did spend a lot of time working out what I would eat, and it does become a bit of an obsession. I personally also though after I had lost so much I would find it difficult to watch me weight creep back up each week - but that is a personal thing for me. Slimming world is a brilliant healthy eating (not dieting regime) so good luck going, I am sure if u find a good group you will be very welcomed! I plan to start back at mine 3 weeks after the birth... And I cannot wait! It is brilliant to follow, and health wise I have never felt better than when I was following it...

I've done it in the past and did really well on it. But i know I won;t be doing it to lose weight. i'm just not so good with healthy eating on my own - I need a plan to follow. I know it's healthy because you can eat as much as you want fo the right things so baby will never go hungry :) I'll give it a go. I though about maybe contacting the lady first - think it gives you a number to ring under the group just to see what she says.

I have been going now for 11wks and have lost 8.5lb so far, i have been made to feel really welcome, and dont feel guilty if i put on a pound one week as they fully understand baby is growing, i love it, its easy to follow and cant wait till ive had the baby and start doing it properly as i have to admit ive been craving big macs BUT im still losing the weight by being a lil bit naughty!!! Hope it goes well for you hun, wish you all the best x

P.s i didnt join expecting to lose weight before anyone shouts at me that i shouldnt, but it is safe to do this AND lose weight at the same time, i have both midwife and consultants agreement that i should do it.......i seriously didnt expect to lose any, especially this late stage where baby is doing its most growing weight wise, but i have lost it steadily AND safely xx

my sister has just joined and think i would have joined too if i had more than two weeks left - however good im sure itd feel goin back after having baby "i lost 14 lbs this week!" lol. however i am basically following the idea of the plan from today(lean meat, fruit, veg, "good" carbs and healthy extras but im having more milk than the normal plan allows as i think i need the calcium). it sounds like they'd be welcoming and it is a healthy plan even in pregnancy as long as you dont worry that you will still gain weight xxx

Yes you are allowed certain extras to keep you having the right amount for babys needs like extra milk, cheese etc it really is fab

how many of the healthy extras do you have? just trying to get back in to good habits cos my diet really did go to hell over xmas so figure even if i end up cheating once or twice its startin to get me back thinking about how healthy my food is - and i think the 1/3 fruit/veg you have to eat is a brilliant idea, especially in pregnancy xxx

I did SW pre pregnancy, but did it at home as I felt 2 consiouse going to group and I swear it was the weight loss from doing SW that helped me to conceive in the first place. I carried it on for a while after as well and lost a stone while pregnant, all of which and some has gone back on. I only stopped when I became ill with the pregnancy and fuddy with my food. I was also bleeding heavily at one stage so making & preparing meals was a no no and had to rely on whatever OH chucked togeather.

I was also considering going back as the weight gain is crippaling me emotionanaly, im a big girl to start with so loosing weight wouldnt harm the baby in any way, not that thats my goal though. What I do want and need is someone to answere to, to plan & wright my food intake down so that I do have that salad & rice, rather than the cheese & toast that I so love> I think if i was answering to someone, id be more inclined to make healthier choices and eat the apples I have in becouse its healty & not becouse the bloody bread hasnt defrosted yet... eulmh82, we could be group buddies.....

eulma82.......Thank you.

I know iv just answered your post, but you made me feel so guilty for bein g idle and I want to thank you for that (not in a sarcastic way either).

Youv made me remember that pregnancy isnt an excuse to pile on the pounds and iv remembered my little mantra from first trimester when I was still doing slimming world..." I dont want to have that much baby weight to loose after LO is hear that I cant enjoy him"

Iv done a google search and theres a group about 20 minuates walk away from me (im determined to walk & leave the car at home) Iv got the group leaders number in my phone and im going to give her a ring later and hopefully she will say I can go to group tonight......

Here in the US I did Weight Watchers pre-pregnancy, but they refused to let me go since being pregnant. Something about not wanting to promote weight loss during pregnancy. Blah blah blah! There's nothing wrong with wanting to maintain healthy eating as much as possible and I find it refreshing you UK ladies can continue with your meetings. :)

ah I'm glad you ladies are all having good experiences. I think you are allowed two healthy extra as and bs on extra easy plan (instead of just one of each)

We aren't allowed to do weight watchers in the UK either only Slimming World. Because you are allowed to eat as much as you want of certian foods it doesn;t restrict you in that way whereas with weight watchers once you have used your points that's it even if you are hungry.

I lost a stone initally due to morning sickness and now that's gone back on plus about 5 pounds so I'm really hoping to keep it down a bit now as I am already overweight and we are only supposed to put on a max of 1 stone 10 pounds. I do try and get my fruit and veg etc but my chocolate intake is too much and like somebody has mentioned I don;t want to have loads to lose when the baby is born as I do struggle to lose weight so it;s just easier not to gain too much.

SW guildlines state you can have 2 healthy a and b options instead of 1, but you also work with your midwife, if you or she feels your body is missing out on certain vits then sw will make allowances....i was craving cheese and milk neither of which i would choose to have pre pregnancy, so on speaking to midwife she suggested i up'd these for a few days see what happens, i still went on to lose that week and my sw lady completly understood. Nothing is set in stone when you join, i just didnt want to put on shed loads like i have in previous pgs, so just needed a kick up the bum to eat more healthy stuff with the old big mac chucked in when baby tells me too!!!

Iv spoke to a slimming world consultant today and she said she has guided many pregnant women, most of who dont want to loose weigh, just maintain a happy balance and ensure that its onkly baby related weight that they put on. She also said that there is currently a lady at the same group im going to tonight who is also pregnant.

She was quite happy that my main goal isnt to loose weight, but to maintain a happy balance, but she did stress that due to my eating habbits changing for the better and loosing the chocolate & chrisp, chances are I will probbaly loose afew pounds in the first few weeks anyway, im realy looking forward to joining againand getting some balance back.

Also, the way I see it, if im already at Slimming World, once iv had the baby i can go straight back and it wont be as hard,

Good for you :) - I'm going to call mine later as I know some have jobs in the day and do the sw in the evening so if I call her about half four ish she might be available. I'm glad your lady was so supportive. The chocolate has gotten out of hand - I'm worried I;ve comatosed him due to too much chocolate - I'm really looking forward - like you - to getting back some balance and eating a really healthy, fresh diet and I'm sure baby is too

Also fairy - what did she say about getting midwife's approval? I'm sure it won;t be a prob but I don;t see her again until jan 19th - can you join and just get the approval next time you see her?

well i went - she didn;t have the booklet so she said she'd post it. The only prob is the meeting starts at 7 and was still going on at half 8 when I left! It was prob because it was first one of the year and she was going through stuff but I can;t stay that long! I will go in about half seven next time. I've planned my weeks menus and written my shopping list anyway so we'll see how we get on :)

glad it went well hun, im enjoying the healthy meals my sister is making from their recipe book and all the fresh fruit n veg - although will be allowing myself the odd treat. although who told you we're meant to put on 1 stone 10 max? ive heard its 2 stone average and ive put on 2 and a half (which im devestated about) but midwife said its healthy and partly due to water retention xxx

Can you go to these things pregnant? i dont see the point dieting well pregnant, i know the scales wont be going down right now so dont really see the point well thats what i think anyways! tho after baby is here i will deff be dieting NON STOP!

tho i know some people diet to eat better which is good i guess but i deff will be dieting to loose weight!

xxxx
