Hi, I have just been diagnosed with PCOS (my doc says my case is boarderline). He wants to try me on Clomid but wants to do a laproscopy, dye and D&C before he puts me on any medication. He explained the procedure to me but just wanted some details on the experience of others. Will this help with my attempts in getting pregnant. How sore is it afterwards? And info you all could give me would be greatfully appreciated as I am very apprehensive at the moment and I know no one who has gone through this. Thanks!

Hi hun, I too have PCOS and had lap&dye/D&C in May. I had three cycles of clomid at arying doses before that but didn't ovulate on it. Anyway the procedure itself is done under general anaesthetic(Ihad never had one and was a bit apprehensive) and is relatively short - about 45 mins. It's usually done as a day procedure. I had bleeding for the cupl days after and it quickly slowed to spotting. I was sore but nothing that nurofen plus couldn't handle although some docs give prescription fro stronger meds depending on pain threshold. My FS found some endometriosis which was removed via D&C during it. I also got some pain in my shoulders as the gas they use to inflate your uterus moves upwards when leaving the body. Your tummy will be swollen and will take a few days to go down.

Now...onto TTC after it. Well firstly you can have sex again as soon as you fell comfortable. Think it was about 10 days for me. I started an injectable cycle about 3 wks after the lap and that resulted in a pregnancy. Unfortunately my little Bean didn't make it but that had nothing to do with having had the lap. Research has found that women tend to be more fertile during the 3 months after a Lap/D&C as the operation gives the uterus a good clearout!

Hope this isn't info overload for you. Any other questions just shout!:hugs:

Hey

I had a laproscopy done last feb, too had a small area of endometriosis removed. i didnt have any bleeding or anything afterwards, they went straight through my belly button and my tummy was a bit sore for couple of days and inside my uterus area felt a bit uncomfy.

My partner and i had been trying for nearly 2 years and i had the procedure done on the February and i fell pregnant in the May :) so you may benifit from having this done xx

you mention that having it done can make you more fertile....well i had it done in the February and i fell pregnant in the May!!!! --3 months later....thats weird i didnt know that xx

It is not that it specificially makes you more fertile (like magic or anything) but it removes problems if there are problems like endo and if tubes are partially blocked the dye going through them could open them up for a few months.

Goodluck!!!

I had one done also and it is the most accurate picture of what is going on - so it is a very informative tool!

I had a Lap & Dye on Monday and still a bit achy but it just feels like bad period pains really. It is definatey more of an ache than a pain!

My doc never mentioned having a D & C at the same time. Is this standard and goes hand in hand with the Lap and Dye or is it case specific. They found my tubes weren't blocked (phew!!!)

hi i had a hycosy b4 my fs would allow me to try clomid...a much less invasive way of checking if ur fallopian tubes are blocked.....have u been offered this? its not a major op & is over within minutes. also there is a high success rate of conceiving after this procedure! i started clomid oct 09 & then pushed for a lap & dye after my 3rd cycle of clomid was a BFN.....nothing was found but i did get my BFP that 4th mth.....i apparently conceived only a few days after the lap & dye!! i bet the dye flushed my tube nice & clear & made way 4 the spermies lol...

the op wasnt too bad......i still have quite red scars, 1 near belly button & 1 lower down...i think the worst part was the injection to put u to sleep & the feeling sick from the anesthetic after......some people do get quite bad gas pain in shoulders from the gas they blow you up[ with..i got this for 1 day but my friend didnt get that at all! peppermint is meant to help xx

I had a Lap and hystro last week. The procedure was over in 25 mins (my doc is super fast) and like dancingkaty mentioned the worst is the sickness afterwards due to the anaesthesia. The pain subsides very fast and today at 6 days post lap I have absolutely no pain even though my stitches havent come off. The doc found grade 3 endo which got reduced to grade 2 and a PID which has damaged my tubes. Before the Lap we were in the unexplained infertility category. Atleast now we r explained even if the prognosis is not good.
