I know some people have recommended these large waterpoof pads to use to protect your mattress in case your waters break and I thought it sounded like a good idea. I also heard a couple of people suggest putting one in the car to protect the seat on the way to the hospital.

Anyone have any recommendations? I thought they sounded good but the ones at Mothercare are too small

Are they the same as puppy pads?? https://www.petsathome.com/shop/puppy-training-pads-by-simple-solution-15472

For your mattress at home, I'd suggest a plain old waterproof pad under your sheets instead. I've found with babies and kids in and out of your bed, and getting sick, it's a lifesaver! But otherwise, here most drugstores, medical supply, or similar have Disposable pads. Puppy pads work too.

I bought mine from Tesco, I was really surprised when I opened them as to what a good size they are. I've put 3 in my bedside drawer for nearer to the time and I've put 3 in the glove box in the car for going to the hospital. I wanted to b super organised this time :)

Hey hun in hospital they just use inco sheets. They are basically the same but larger and cheaper. If you stick maternity or pregnancy onto things you can charge more apparently :winkwink:

For a quid more you can get larger ones that are really absorbent - https://www.bmsupplies.co.uk/inco-s...tectors/Sabanindas-60-x-90-Inco-Bed-protector

and you get 20 in the pack rather than 5, but you can use them in future if you have another baby, or for potty training disasters etc :haha:

I bought these in boots yesterday :)

I'm using the ones meant for children when being toilet trained - think they're called drynites. but, yeah, they're the same as puppy pads and inco pads.

Mine are from tesco or asda - they are bed pads for adults, I think they were £5 for a pack of ten. I use 2 under my sheet on my bed just in case my waters break in bed, and I've started keeping one folded up in the car just in case my waters break while out and about, so I can sit on it in the car

Brilliant thank you all!!

I had a sneaking suspicion that the maternity ones would be the most expensive :haha: But I had no idea what else to Google - I'd never thought of looking at incontinence bed pads.

Will definitely want a few as I normally have heavy periods so it'll be nice to leave the mattress protected after I come home as well. I could also use them for a changing mat for the baby too I guess!

Edit - I should say we have a non-standard mattress so we can't get a waterproof cover.

I bought boots ones, only because they had a 3for 2 offer on all maternity stuff once and bought shed loads of everything!!

And yes, they saved my mattress from a very large soaking!!!!

Just had a look around and these seem good value

I know 35 is a lot but they're £9 inc delivery... Mothercare ones are £5 for 5!!

The Boots ones are bigger though... Hmmm....

You will need quite a large one, don't forget they move a bit and you move a lot, you ur bum isn't always in the same place overnight! Obviously the larger they are, the more of it there is to suck up liquid......

Oh and I've kept the rest of mine for when LO is potty training overnight etc......long way off but they might as well be used for something!

Ive got some drynites from MIL and I picked some pampers ones yesterday I think they weren't too much from asda. They did have some in home bargains that i spotted after buying the others that were 2 pound or something for 10. I Think it was that price or just a little bit more, although i don't know how thick they would be.

I bought some on amazon. Incontinence bed pads 35 for £12 I think it was. I was going to use it after birth in case of excessive bleeding. Didn't think to use them beforehand in case waters should break but I will do now!

Great thread :)

I've bought some of the changing pads from pampers. They are waterproof and disposable so I figure im just going to use them. They are 60x60cm. You can get them on amazon if you wanted to look but they are cheaper in tesco.

I always keep a waterproof mattress cover on the bed because once the cat peed on our bed. That will be under our sheet, then on top of that I plan to put a vinyl tablecloth (fuzzy side up) underneath another sheet when things get close. That's two layers of waterproof protection! Hopefully the tablecloth stops everything and the regular mattress cover doesn't get messy, since it is a nice one and not too cheap.

I also have two packages of incontinence pads for my homebirth. Probably to cover the floor, whatever chair I want to sit on during labor, etc. I will put these on TOP of the top sheet if/when I am in bed after my water breaks.

My oh made me sit on one of these pads on the sofa. We've only had it a year and he was worried i'd ruin it!!

P.s my waters broke nowhere near the sofa/car seat/bed so i cut them into smaller squares and put them on babys changing mat. Was brilliant when she pee'd suddenly once i'd taken her nappy off.
