So this is very late but had to share, sorry if it's long...
So it all started with my sweep I got on the 19th of June, it definitely did the trick because just half an hour after it I started getting strong period type cramps that lasted the whole day after. The next morning I was dreaming I was in labour, I could feel the contractions and it woke me up, this was 6am. I went to the loo and got my first contraction (I must of been contracting in my sleep) they started off like period type pains and I didn't think much of it but eventually there was no mistaking it as I had to breath through them. I went and bounced on my birthing ball until they got closer together and woke DH up. I phoned my sister in law to come and pick up my DD Aleena. We woke Aleena up and told her that her baby bro/sis was coming and she was very excited. We got her ready and ourselves and DH started loading the car and getting everything organised. By this point I was leaning up against the wall breathing through my contractions and wishing my SIL would hurry, she didn't take that long at all but it felt it to me because the pain was getting stronger. She got to the house with my MIL and they took Aleena and me and dh left for the hospital. When we got there the contractions started to get more intense, I was walking real slow and a nurse walking into the hospital spotted me and helped me in which was good because DH had his hands full. When I got there I was checked and was shocked to find out I was only a fingertip dilated! With my DD I was 7 when I arrived so just goes to show every labour is so different. The pain started to get unbearable and the midwives couldn't understand why I was in so much pain considering i wasn't dilated that much, I asked for some gas but was told I wasn't allowed. Thank goodness I had my tens machine on, i can't imagine how much worse it would of been without it. The pain was getting worse and worse and soon I was getting out of control, my dh was trying to calm me down but the pain was terrible, it was all in my back. I asked to be checked again and still no progression which was stressing me out because the pain was suggesting otherwise. I asked DH to phone my mum and make her way (she was my second birthing partner) she got there and managed to calm me down quite a bit ( nobody can calm me like her lol) another midwife came and offered me gas which I immediately started having, it was amazing lol. It managed to sooth me for a wee while but soon I was getting out of control again and becoming quite loud, apparently I was "scaring" the other ladies so the moved me to a separate room. I was in so much pain they had to wheel the bed in as I couldn't walk, I was given some dia morphine and it worked wonders for a good while, I was a bit worried it would of had a bad effect on me like the last time but it was fine this time, it really relaxed me. I was told to stand up and rock my hips to get baby moved down further but Dh and my mum had to hold me up, I was really drowsy. By this time it was 12 and i was checked again and told I was 3cm and that I'd probably have to be moved to a ward, I got upset at this point because my mum and husband wouldn't be allowed to come to the ward with me and I didn't want to be alone, thankfully they said I could go to Labour and delivery so I was wheeled up there and the pain was getting worse and worse, It wasn't really the contractions but more about the back pain, it was so intense, they found out that baby has lying an odd way on my pelvis or something and that's what was causing me such pain so they offered me an epidural and told me this would really help my back so I accepted. The epidural didn't fully work though, I could still feel my legs and the contractions which I didn't mind because the thought of not feeling my legs scared me. The good thing was though that it took all the back pain away and that's what really mattered to me, I could manage my contractions a lot better and I was able to talk again and not just scream out in pain. I even managed a chocolate bar and a drink . Things moved pretty fast from this point and before I knew it, it was time to push..I didn't even need to try that hard as the baby was coming out pretty much on her own or at least that's what the midwife was saying, the feeling of knowing your baby is coming out is truly overwhelming and suddenly I began to get really scared and cry, not because of the pain but just because it was all so overwhelming and I knew I was about to become a mum to another little person and I was just so in love already and I hadn't even seen baby yet. I got told when the head was crowning and the midwife asked me if I wanted to touch it and I did, wow I must say Iv never felt so amazed in all my life, feeling my baby's little head and all that hair was just amazing, knowing i was soon going to meet my little bundle with a couple more pushes baby was out and placed straight onto my chest. Another little princess.. I sobbed with happiness, best moment ever! My mum and husband cried tears of joy and hugged me, I felt like super women I put lo to my breast and she immediately started suckling all by herself, I was so proud DH let my mum cut the cord which was so lovely of him, this was the first time she had ever done it so it was a truly amazing moment for her. We took lots of pictures then Dh took the baby and I started getting cleaned up, I had to get a catheter put in because I couldn't feel my bottom half properly, I got given a bed bath and then I was wheeled to the ward. I was told I hadn't teared or needed cut so all I had was a small graze, I can't explain how pleased I was to hear that lol, over all a wonderful experience and we are all over the moon with our baby girl Zaria
