Just curious if you we're told to age adjust.
My little power pocket was born at 35+4 and I have a crap hospital where I live now so I get no real info and they just say it depends.

Any advice would be great.

My dd was 34+4 and we were never told to adjust although I always cut her a bit of slack (!) look at her adjusted age when doing things xx

Mine was 33+5 and no one told me to age adjust. I swear at his first pediatritan appointment after he got out of the hospital they didn't even use his adjusted age for his percentiles (I doubt he was in the .18%-tile for 36 weeks and 3 days, probably for 2 and a half weeks old). No one has ever mentioned adjusted age to me. They do all his appointments based on his chronological age and all, no one has ever said anything about adjusting his age and he is 6 weeks 2 days early!

When going to his doctor appointments they use his actual age, but they told me personally before I left the hospital that I should cut him some slack for reaching his milestones the first year. Last time I went to the pediatrician I inquired about his development and they said although he has more world experience, in reality he should only be 4 months old, so he's acting like a 4 month old. I always use his actual age when people ask how old he is, but I always consider his adjusted age. He is all caught up though, weight wise and height wise so sometimes I forget he was 8 weeks early.

My twins were 33+4 and their height, weight, milestones etc were adjusted until they reached a year old. Doctor said that after a year (adjusted) most preemies have almost always caught up with other children their age. My newest LO was very unexpected and preemie (alittle over 23 weeks) and her adjusted age will be used by her doctor and the health unit until she is 16 months (one year adjusted).

I wonder why some don't adjust the age? If you don't, then the LO will always appear to be behind when they actually are not.

One of my boys was born at 35 weeks and we were told to adjust.

Thanks for your replays. I am noticing a real difference in what bub can do so I was surprised they did not want me to age adjust for physical milestones.

I glad I am not the only one getting no real information. While in nicu I was constantly told she won't do this she won't do that but as soon as I am out I get a different story.

She is 19 days old and has only just got her eye lashes. I very thankful labour stopped when my waters broke at 27+4

they usually say like others have said to cut them some slack with milestones but they don't bother adjusting the percentiles because it doesn't really matter where they are on the percentiles just that they're following a similar curve.

My health visitor said to adjust her, but she's caught up in size to the average term baby now so I don't think it matters... Tbh I've no idea when she's meant to hit milestones anyway (although the same health visitor who told me to adjust seemed pretty negative about the fact she wasn't cooing or smiling at 6 Weeks :s )

Babys born after 33ish weeks you adjust their age till their one. Babys born before 33 weeks can be adjusted till they are two.

At my DDs 8 week check up they said they would not be able to do a full check up as 'she wont be doing what she is meant to be just yet.' She said they do the 8week check from her EDD and then they 'allow' them to take a little longer doing things such as sitting up/walking etc but will try to stick to their actual age as much as poss. x

My son was born at 35 weeks and 5 days, because he was "big" for a preemie they don't even put down he was a late preemie.

Niamh was massive for a prem and she was still marked back

Jaxton was born at 35+6 and weighed 7lbs 15 oz everything was perfect on all of his tests but it still took me 48 hours of fighting to get him out of the high risk nursery because they felt it was too dangerous to let a "35 week preemie" room with me :( not even 12 hours after they discharged him from the high risk nursery they discharged us both from the hospital ... strange they would even classiy him a preemie !

Its funny how things change from hospital to hospital, Niamh was born at 35+4 at 8lb 15 and there was no mention of her going into special care untill the jaundice made her ill.

Yes even the hospital I was at changed so much in the 4 years from when I had my first to when I had my second and to be honest i wasnt very happy with the care , lack of communication between staff , or all the run arounds I had to deal with ... with my first it was almost like a vacation but this time was an over all stressful and miserable experience... he shouldnt have even had to be in the high risk nursery and all his nurses felt the same way it was the head pediatrician that refused to let him out even though she only assessed him once the entire 48 hours and that was when she discharged him !

This is exactly how I felt! With my 1st, the nurses were great, everything was perfect. With my son (2nd), he was my late preemie and all the staff were so incredible rude. It was unbelievable! :growlmad: We were actually discharged the same day! I had him at 2am and left that night around 8pm, he had trouble eating and the nurses would just say things like "you just not feeding him right.." I was breastfeeding, so I get home and he still can't eat, I start pumping and feeding it to him by bottle, he ended up having tongue tie. I was so angry and had so many mix emotions with that pregnancy and labor.

Lo was born at 35 weeks and they said they will adjust till one but she caught up in height and weight she's now 75th percentile for weight and 91st for height actual age!
