Our son is a litte over 5 weeks and we use Tommee Tipee bottles and size 2 teat as he is on comfort milk but he leaks so much milk..... Could it be that he is just a messy eater?. The milk flow does not overpower him and we need to use size 2 teats as the comfort milk is thicker.
I am no keen on changing his bottles unless i really have too, but would using variflow teats help?

You could try the variflow teats - some babies love them, some just don't get on with them. But it'd certainly be cheaper than switching bottles altogether :)

Our oldest daughter dribbled milk a LOT. As in we'd have one of those foam-necked TT bibs, then 2 bibs underneath it and we'd still have to clean around her neck after feeds. Turns out it's because she had a really bad upper lip tie (which was a large part of why she couldn't breastfeed). What most experts don't seem to realise is that a latch onto a bottle can also be affected by lip tie, and can result in lots of dribbling and really bad colic/wind pain.

It's maybe worth having a check with your HV/GP to see if your LO is lip-tied, as it can be fixed if he is :hugs: (Be warned, you may have to be pretty persistent to get them to listen to you).

Thank you so much that is really interesting. My son would not breastfeed, which we put down to him being lazy...... He is also rather colicky. Right now he soaks a muslin square and bib each feed, i swear he looses more milk than he drinks. We have health visitor next week..... I may try variflow teats and then talk to health visitor after that.

Thank you for your post! I am now thinking that Jack may have lip tie. BFing him was extremely painful for me, he is now bottle fed but leaks a LOT of milk when he feeds.

I have taken a picture but it is not very good quality - he just will not keep still!

From looking at liptie pictures on google it looks like Jack may have one. I checked Isaac and he has a small one, in the uk they don't tend to correct them if baby is gaining weight.

Thanks, yes it seems they snip them at an older age if it causes problems with teeth or with speech. I may still go to docs though.

If you go to the Dr's will you let me know what they say?. I am unsure whether to take Isaac, since he does spill milk loads but he is still gaining weight.... don't want them thinking i am a neurotic mum

Sure no problem. Jack is gaining weight and is fine aside from loads of milk being dribbled whilst feeding... so I suspect they will tell me to chill out!

Tried Isaac on a variflow teat and less dribbling of milk x x

Glad to hear that he is doing better with a variflow teat :)

It frustrates me as in this area they will snip a lip tie if it's causing issues with breastfeeding. But if the baby is bottle fed then they don't even check for it :( I was prepared to go private if DD2 had the same lip tie as her big sister, but luckily she doesn't.
