I was just also wondering does anyone make up a kettle of boiling water and pop the required amount into the bottles until required? If so how long do you keep thewater in the bottles for until you add the formula? Does it make any differance adding the formula to cold pre-boiled water?

The instructions on the formula we use it says to use boiling water that has cooled for c30mins on the basis that the formula powder is not sterile and it is the heat of the water that makes the mixture sterile. As the milk we use is comfort milk it won't dissolve properly in water that has cooled for much more than 30mins anyway

When I make up a bottle of plain cooled boiled water for drinking in between feeds I never keep it more than 24 hours.

I've been adding the powder to cooled boiled water that has been left longer than half an hour... am worried now...can anyone reassure me?

Thanks for that, when you say you make up a bottle of cooled boiled water for drinking in between feeds how much do you give as I have been told many different things?

On a night I boil the kettle and pour the required amount into 3 bottles and when Charlie wakes up for his feed I then mix the powder into the cooled boiled water and he drinks his bottles at room temperature.

I also do this if I am going out for the day too.

So I normally go to bed about 11pm and he has his last bottle from the batch i take up to bed at 7am so thats 8 hours. xx

Joni has had problems with her digestion since she was 8weeks old so I do follow the guidelines on the formula box religiously. Plus her comfort formula does not dissolve properly in water that has cooled for more than 30 mins. I do however know quite a few people who make up feeds with boiled water that has cooled for more than 30mins and so far have not heard that they have had any issues with this.

At the end of the day all you can do is read the guidelines and do what you are happy with.

I do this... the water is fine for 24 hours hun xx

My understanding is that when FF you should offer extra water in hot weather &/or if baby is constipated. In the summer when it was hot I would offer water about half way between feeds and, if Joni wanted to drink, would let her take about an ounce. Anymore than that then she would not take as much at her next feed.

To be honest I don't think there are any hard guidelines as to how much and how often as it really varies between baby to baby. I think the key thing is to be aware your LO might need/want extra water and make this available to them in case they want it and play it by ear.

i make up my bottles with water leave them out & add formula when DS has a feed he takes them at room temp - i've never had a problem. i also did this for my DD who's now 21 months & she's never had any problems.
If your a bit nervous ring up the helpline on the tub & check with them
xx

I make mine up and keep them in the fridge for 24 hours (I just keep in the fridge as counter is cluttered already).

I do the same as terri21, my LO doesnt like her milk warm...she wont take it
