I know that they say to only leave a formula bottle out for an hour and I usually go by that religiously, but sometimes family will say something like "we always left ours out for a couple hours and we were just fine". So how long do you ladies really leave formula out? If I can leave it out longer and not waste so much i will.

ds was ff and we would occasionally forget how long the bottle was out and gave it to him only to realise the bottle was a couple hours old. i wouldnt make a habit of doing it but once in a while never hurt ds.

I have left it longer before!!

Also in the special care units, they open one of those glass jars, use what they need, leave the jar near the cot and use the rest at the next feed!!!

the formula I use says to use within 2 hours of making, so I tend to follow their 2 hour rule rather than the general 1 hour guide. We have fed LO feed which has been out for a while longer, but it wasn't deliberate as it was nighttime and the time wasnt checked. It was the instant stuff at that point though which I think is more resiliant to growth as it must have added things in it and been treated somehow to allow it to be ok in the cartion made up, and then ok for 24 hours if chilled

Typically I use it within 2 hours, but if he falls asleep during the bottle I will put it in the fridge until his next feeding. Have not had any issues:shrug:

If I put a bottle in the fridge, how long is it good in there?

This is going to sound bad, but here goes! I used to make a feed when I went to bed (around midnight) and take it upstairs for the early morning feed (around 6:30).
When I came out of hospital my mam tried to make all six in the morning because that's what she did when I was a baby.
I had no problems with doing this but it's not recommended.

We live in a warm climate, so during the summer we shoudl only really leave it out for an hour, but we leave it for about 2 hours, then stick it in the fridge, heat it up again later on, and leave it out for another 2 hours then. LO has never had any problems. We don't use it a third time, so if it's not finished on the second cycle it's chucked. I should also add that we use boiled water, but it's cold when we make the bottles, so the bacteria in the milk is never killed off, and we still leave the bottles out.

My husband is a chef, so he knows about food hygiene, and we wouldn't do it if we thought the milk was off. It's a personal choice; I always thought the rule was 2 hours out fo the fridge, so I don't know

While the weather was hot, I would leave it an hour, but now it's getting colder, I follow the 2 hour rule.
Having said that, Evie isnt one to go back to her bottle.. she'll drink what she wants in one sitting and once she's done, she's done! She also wont take room temp milk so when it's cooled down, she'll just refuse it.

i do what your mum did as thats how i was feed also and i have 4 healthy kids an 18 yr old 16 yr old (boys) 16mth and 2 mth old (girls) and ive never had an issue so go with your gut i say :thumbup:

2 hours max for us but i make as i go and Ollie always finishes his bottle so its rarely left any lenght of time unless he falls asleep but usually its just a cat nap xx

I make up a batch of 4 at 10:30pm, and another batch around dinnertime, i keep them out on the side. this is what my mum did & a friend of mine was actually told to do this by her healthvisitor! so i thought y not try it? Its not affected Travis at all- he's never sick, he drinks room temp bottles no prob: i dont have to warm them up :-) saves a lot of time!!

it says on the tub no longer than 2hours so i follow that x

I used to make them all every evening and put them in the fridge. Now I just put the water in and leave them on the side and add the powder when needed, when the powder has been added I usually follow the 2 hour rule. :flower:
