I've noticed that certain letters make names more/less appealing to me. I enjoy underused letters, such as K, H, F, N, T, etc.

I like some "extra" letters in names like
Norah, as opposed to Nora.
Faye, as opposed to Fay.

I also strongly like/dislike names with certain letters.
I love Ks as opposed to Cs.

My top girls name is Neveyah because I love the sound but also love the letters N, V, Y, and H.

I love lots of names for boys...top of my list is Tyler, then Frederick...

I guess the letters seem more important in girls names for some reason?
Can any of you relate? I surely can't be the only one obsessed with spellings? ?

I tend to be pretty much opposite of what you've said. :haha: I can't think of many names I like that begin with K. I'm drawn to vowel names for sure, especially with girl names. I also hate the letter 'y' thrown in where there isn't one traditionally.

It's a safe bet that I don't like any spelling with an 'eigh' where there once was an 'ey' (like Hayleigh, Hadleigh, Kaleigh).

I'm definitely a fan of simple/traditional spelling... as someone with a uniquely spelled name!

I do like uncommon letters in traditional names though, like Ezra, Ivy, and Felix.

I'm really drawn to "E" and "A" for a girl, and "T" or "W" for a boy. I am not a fan of adding letters usually though (hubby and I got into a not-fight about our daughter's name, he wanted to do Evelynn :haha:).

So interesting how we all decide on the right names!

I like W, S, K, Y and J

I dont tend to like long names, rather short and sharp names (like Jon instead of Jonathan, Alex instead of Alexander)

I seem to like the vowel 'a' to follow the first letter often

I dont like 'z' names they seem over dont or 'x' names where the x is replacing a z

and boys names are so much easier than girls names, no idea why but that just seems to be how everything works

I like historic names, I find misspelling strange too when if you go back 100+ year most names arent used anymore so are perfectly unique now anyway - Id rather have an Icarus than a Braxxson or a Meryl than a Khaye-lei

I'm like staralfur, hate adding in letters for the sake of it (except Faye, think that's got a nicer look)
K ones like Khloe instead of Chloe make me cringe a bit.
But I do like uncommon letters in traditional names like Felix, my ds to be is going to be a Dexter :)

I am a teacher so names are a nightmare for me!

I like conventionally spelled names. I really don't get why parents give their kids really common names and then think it is "different" because they go for a spelling that they made up. I know someone called Lauren except she spelled it Lauran. But the teacher was meant to somehow know to pronounce it Lauren ... Go figure!

That being said I think traditional girls names which end in y often look better with ie instead - like Kirstie for instance. Luckily neither of us liked any of those names so we didn't need to think about it!

I like things being spelt correctly. In the last year i know of 2 emily's born spely emi-lei and emmerleigh.

However i love the ending of a name to be ah instead of a (like your norah instead of nora)

I'm the opposite of the OP too and don't like an h at the end. I like uncommon but not because they're spelt a weird way or they're made up. For example I like Magnus but very much dislike Kaedyn. I like a name with history or connections with historical or literary figures like Darwin, Marlowe, Conrad, Olivia, Viola etc. I like pretty names for girls and stronger-sounding names for boys, although it still freaks me out a bit that I named my son something beginning with Z. Our girl choice was Josephine
