Lightening crotch and effacing?

I got to thinking the other day that maybe those sudden shocks of lightening crotch and effacing could be related? Googling finds mixed opinions. I was 50% effaced at my appt Monday and since then the lightening crotch episodes have increased significantly. Really curious to see if any additional progress has been made by my next appt next week. What do you think?

I don't know. I feel like lightning crotch has to mean something like dilation or effacing. I've gotten it quite a few times over the last week. I haven't been checked, though for either dilation or effacement yet. But it would be good to know if those two things are related.

In my case severe episodes of lightning crotch in one day over a span of few hours ended up being related to dilation and effacement. I was 3-4cm dilated and 60% effaced last I was checked.

My OB says it's softening the cervix.
