Ok,

So I've posted a few times in regards to my new pregnancy and there have been some new developments that have left me in a state of confused limbo! So here's the background...sorry it's long and sorry if a little TMI...

I m/c my first pregnancy August 6th at 8 weeks...absolutely heartbreaking. About six weeks later, I woke up with the strange compulsion to take a FRER, so I did and got a BFP! (This was not really planned, because we were going to wait a month...) I called my doc the same day and he sent me in for bloodwork that day and two days after because he wanted to verify that it was a new pregnancy and not residual from the last one:

9/6 - BHcg 38.2
9/8 - BHcg 80.6

Doc called and confirmed new pregnancy! Yay! So about two days later, started spotting and doc said go back for more bloodwork:

9/17 - BHcg 927.6
9/19 - BHcg 1930

I wake up the morning of 9/18 with heavy bleeding and clotting but no cramps. I see the doctor same day. He tells me that I am having a threatened miscarriage and says to just relax and see what happens. Tells me cervix is still closed. Stopped bleeding later that day. Levels on 9/19 still rising...Doc tells me to take another blood test:

9/21 - BHcg 2173

So obviously still rising but now not doubling...Fast forward a few more days. I start bleeding again with clotting, NO CRAMPS! I go back to the doc, but only see nurse practitioner. She removed clot from cervix and does ultrasound, but I don't really think she knew what to look for. Says cervix is still closed. Request more blood draws...at this point I'm expecting numbers to go down based on everything I'm seen and have been told...

9/28 - BHcg 5194

Doctor calls with shocking news that levels are still rising, but says don't get hopes up because he feels pregnancy isn't normal. He tells me to take one more blood test:

10/1 - BHcg 7425

So levels are still rising and about 50% in a little over 52 hours. Doctor calls yesterday and says he wants me to schedule d&c but won't really give good reason as to why he wants me to or why he thinks pregnancy isn't normal. I tell him I'm not comfortable with that because once again, I have had no cramping, only bleeding (passing only clots, no tissue), cervix remains firmly closed, still have pregnancy symptoms, levels obviously still rising...Should I get a second opinion? I have been told for the last two weeks that I should expect another loss, yet it hasn't happened (and I know what the cramping associated with it feels like, but haven't had any yet). He keeps telling me I've lost the baby, but can't give me any supporting reason! What should I do? I have been in limbo and am just about ready to pull my hair out! Help!

Oh sweetie, what an awful position you are in. I don't really understand the bloodwork side of things to give you an educated answer, but what I will suggest is this. If you are not confident in what your Doctor is telling you, you can't proceed until you are. You don't want to be plagued with doubts. He needs to explain WHY. If he can't explain this in terms that are clear, then you need to get a 2nd opinion. I am so sorry you are going through this and wish you the best of luck. Xxx

Wow - what a roller coaster ride! I think you need to have an ultrasound done by someone who knows what they're looking for. With your levels over 7000, they should now be able to see the gestational and yolk sac. Definitely don't rush into a D&C because there could still be hope for this pregnancy. Good luck and let us know what happens. xx

What mannymoo says! Don't give up yet, you need a scan. With those levels you should be able to see something by now.
