Hi all,

I am making a chocolate mousse for Sunday dinner (well, for dessert anyway ;)) and the recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of cointreau. The recipe makes 8 servings - so each serving would have 1/4 tablespoon of liqueur, roughly.

Is this okay to eat? Or should I skip it entirely? I'd rather be safe than sorry, but I also don't want to be ridiculously paranoid.

I am 11 weeks today.

That is a teeny amount- I'm sure you'd be absolutely fine! A lot of the advice says small quantities of alcohol are fine anyway. Go for it, it sounds gorgeous!

I wouldnt worry about that at all - you'd have to eat masses of the stuff in order to be at any risk what so ever. Enjoy it! x

Oh good, this is the advice I wanted to hear :) I've never turned down chocolate mousse before!!

I decided to cut the liqueur in half and only use 2 tbsp for the entire recipe. It still tastes great and I feel better about it :)

Even if you put the whole amount in you'd be absolutely fine! You'd be having so much less than the amounts of alcohol that are considered safe during pregnancy.

I'm craving chocolate now! x

I think the tiny amount of booze would be ok but doesn't homemade have raw egg in it??? We are told not to have that during pregnancy!

Nope. It's 2c whipped cream, 3 tbsp icing sugar, 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate, 2 tbsp Cointreau liqueur and 1 tbsp ground espresso. Yummmm!!

I made the regular chocolate mousse and then covered it with a layer of white chocolate mousse (same recipe without the espresso & with rum/cognac instead of cointreau). It looks great ... and I have to wait until tomorrow evening to eat it!!

Ooooh, it sounds very yum!

I blame you for what will be my new craving!!!!!!:hugs:

Yah, me too!!! I want mousse now!

:)

No problem about the cointreau, IMO. I have done lots of research on the subject for my work and have yet to find anything about mild use of alcohol (ie, 2-3 drinks per week) and any sort of damage to the unborn fetus, so I am sure that a couple of tbsps in some dessert will be totally OK.

Great, now where do I find chocolate mousse at this hour???

:)

hey, hun!

when I got the stomach flu in my first trimester, the only thing I could take was a tablespoon of red whine to kill the bacteria in my stomach, because the antibiotics weren't advised during first trimester. You'll be fine, hun, and so will your bubs! :) :hugs: take care
