I'm currently 27 weeks today and on my pre-natal visit it was determined that my baby was measuring 4 weeks behind for unknown reasons along with little to no fluid. I was sent to a specialist and have since had 3 more ultrasounds confirming the same. There are no other health problems for me, no GD and no pre-eclampsia. When trying to determine her organ status, etc they had very little to go on because of the low fluid making the ultrasound too hard to read. From what the specialists can determine, she has a bladder and possibly kidneys and there may be some urine in her bladder but she is not producing it (i.e. no fluid) and they don't know why that is. Dopplers are unconfirmed as well and they said there could be problems there too. She weighs just over 500 grams at this point and they don't expect her to go beyond this as she has stopped growing. Her lungs are also unclear as far as development. So basically I was told that I had 2 choices, give steroids, stay in the hospital and be monitored and look at possible delivery within days with maybe a 2% chance of survival with unknown complications, second choice was to not do steroids yet, go home and wait and let her age (not grow) to give her maybe 3% chance instead. With this option I was told she could die in the womb for any unknown reason but even with steroids and monitoring we could find any other problem and have to delivery anyway. We decided to go home and wait. She has a strong heartbeat and still moves around as normal. I understand the risks but there are so many unknowns here because of the inconclusive ultrasounds. I am really looking for other experiences similar to mine, most I come across on the net have been women well past 30+ weeks with babies weighing more than a pound and fluid is never an issue. I go back to the DR on Wednesday just to do a routine ultrasound and check her status, there isn't much hope for a change here but all the choice we have is to wait and it's driving me crazy.
