I'm currently 27 weeks today and on my pre-natal visit it was determined that my baby was measuring 4 weeks behind for unknown reasons along with little to no fluid. I was sent to a specialist and have since had 3 more ultrasounds confirming the same. There are no other health problems for me, no GD and no pre-eclampsia. When trying to determine her organ status, etc they had very little to go on because of the low fluid making the ultrasound too hard to read. From what the specialists can determine, she has a bladder and possibly kidneys and there may be some urine in her bladder but she is not producing it (i.e. no fluid) and they don't know why that is. Dopplers are unconfirmed as well and they said there could be problems there too. She weighs just over 500 grams at this point and they don't expect her to go beyond this as she has stopped growing. Her lungs are also unclear as far as development. So basically I was told that I had 2 choices, give steroids, stay in the hospital and be monitored and look at possible delivery within days with maybe a 2% chance of survival with unknown complications, second choice was to not do steroids yet, go home and wait and let her age (not grow) to give her maybe 3% chance instead. With this option I was told she could die in the womb for any unknown reason but even with steroids and monitoring we could find any other problem and have to delivery anyway. We decided to go home and wait. She has a strong heartbeat and still moves around as normal. I understand the risks but there are so many unknowns here because of the inconclusive ultrasounds. I am really looking for other experiences similar to mine, most I come across on the net have been women well past 30+ weeks with babies weighing more than a pound and fluid is never an issue. I go back to the DR on Wednesday just to do a routine ultrasound and check her status, there isn't much hope for a change here but all the choice we have is to wait and it's driving me crazy.

I'm so very sorry for your situation. I don't know exactly how you feel but I am currently 32 weeks with my sons growth less than the second percentile. I was given steroids and am having
Ultrasounds every week and twice weekly nsts. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop I feel like. I cannot imagine what youre going through and I'm sending you all the wishes in the world. I don't ever post on here..but I felt you needed some encouragement. Don't give up hope yet!

I just wanted to wish you best of luck. Eat well, drink lots of healthy fluids. That is the only thing you could do. Take care (hugs)

I'm so sorry to hear about what you're going through, just wanted to send big hugs your way! :hugs: I know how horrid it is, I was told 90% that my baby would have a serious disability to no life at all, I had to wait it out and I know how hard waiting on something so damn serious can be. If you ever need to rant or vent, you're more than welcome to message me.

Rebeccalouise, do you mind if I ask what the outcome was with your pregnancy? Is your story similar to mine at all?

I caught an infection that I was told would attack my daughters organs, mainly her brain. I was offered an MRI scan but refused this as I knew I'd love my daughter regardless of how ill she was, so I waited it out. I had a number of scans done, they told me her head was too small and that her liver looked inflamed but that they wouldn't know the full extent of the damage until she was born. I'm so lucky that Amelia-Rose was born healthy, she has no long term problems! It just goes to show, what the doctors tell you isn't always 100% right and there's always hope. X

I had low fluid and little nutrition going to the baby but mine was due to severe pre-eclampsia. She had IUGR but when she was delivered at 27 weeks, she was 845g (1lb 13oz) - small for 27 weeks but bigger than they'd thought. I had steroids and careful monitoring and they delivered when they thought she was safer out than in. In my case, it was safer for both of us because my organs were starting to shut down. She had a 12 week NICU stay but is now a very healthy 4 year old with absolutely no problems other than a weak immune system. I know it's a different situation but I just wanted to say I know how terrified you must feel, because I've been there. We knew she would be born very early and very tiny but didn't have a clue if she would even make it or what problems she would face. Thinking of you and sending hugs xxx
