Evening ladies ... :)

Well we have all heard the myths/legends/rumours etc on "dying hair in pregnancy"

However, my hair was red then all faded since being pregnant so now half way is all brown and the top half is all natural light brown ... i brought hair dye today a red/purple again Live Color XXL 2 boxes as i have long hair and want to die my WHOLE hair ...... so it will be on my scalp

Do you recommend this or not? What do you ladies think, and what are your own personal experiences.

(my hairs always been dyed since 12).

Same here, i've dyed my hair since 12 too ^.^ It's like a right of passage your parent's will allow before teenage years lol. I find the LIVE colour's to fade quickly and be quite potant. One of my OH's sister's is a hairdresser, and say's that it's fine to dye/bleach and whatever else with your hair while preggers (she also has 2 little-un's) though i won't risk it myself. Pregnancy cause's so many hormonal changes and imbalances, i don't think it's worth the risk, especially if your skin has become irritant/itchy/blotchy ect ect. It's only 9month's, and having root's is the last thing on my mind :) But like they say, everyone is different :flower:

since being pregnant i went from red to blonde so had i all stripped and bleached several times, and have since gone to a honey colour using live and nothing has happened... ive also used the live red in my previous pregnancies and had no bad consequences

Ive heard its fine to dye hair in pregnancy but you have to be aware that due to hormonal changes it might not turn the colour you expect it to! They recommened to do a test strip first :)

hey hun. im a hairdresser. its safe. go for it. and im a big fan of xxl. if u look on my avatar. that colour is xxl. good luck. xx

dont forget to do a patch test behind your ear. if nothing reacts afteran hour. your good to go xx

Ive had my hair an array of colours - but had it coloured mainly at the hairdressers going from dark to light. They have done bleechy washes on it etc and I have been okay.

I have also coloured my hair at home but without the peroxide? and mainly darker colours leaving them for only the set time. I have used the XXL colours before but not sure if I was pregnant at the time.

Hope that helps some xx

I've used XXL. I called their helpline first and my midwife said its fine. Since they stopped using amonia in hair dyes they're not dangerous. just make sure u do it somewhere well ventilated. i applied it sat outside lol

Thanks ladies :)

Chels -- Awesome, i will do a patch test tomorrow and then go from there, cant wait to be one tone again and back to red :)

Jolly - Thanks :) totally forgot about that (baby brain) so going to patch test tomorrow and if alls well stick it on then sit outside

I dyed mine the very bright red xxl (that i think they stopped making?) before i was pg, then i dyed it brown and am going back to blonde, my natural colour, i died it brown twice at the hairdressers and highlighted there too. Personally I wouldnt use the red xxlwhen pregnant mostly because my skin is more sensitive atm and there are enough warnings all over the box about sensitivity.
I miss it the red but my hair is long, and I must admit that Im really enjoying it being soft and shiny like it used to be before I dyed it red x

My friend is a hairdresser and gets really annoyed when people say they shouldn't dye their hair. She says its perfectly safe as long as you are aware that even colours you may have used before may come out differently due to hormones, same goes for possible reactions, hence doing patch test.

I have used Live for years including during this pregnancy and my sons. It's perfectly safe just make sure the room is well ventilated.

hiya
im currently aout 6 weeks pregnant and was in desperate need of doing my roots, i die my hair the xxl live luminance and have used it several times, my natural colour is a dark brown and i have had no problems with using this colour however this time round my roots have gone a funny light ginger colour as if i was dying my hair from blonde to red instead of dark brown. Usually if anything my roots should be a darker red not a kind of orangy colour. I know your hormones can affect the colour and i didnt go to a salon simply because i cant afford it but what do i do now, its been 2 months since i last dyed it so the rootage is quite big and noticable....can i get a darker red and reapply it and now it has a base colour hopefully it will take darker too now my natural has been covered?! im guessing the reason behind the rest of my hair being the wonderful colour it was before is because it was already dyed and not at my natural and its your natural that is affected by the pregnancy more?!
please help, i have a holiday im going on in a month, the pregnancy was a bit of a shock and i dont want to look like a leapord

Ive dyed my hair twice in this pregnancy and im desperate to do it again but thinking of holding off for a few more weeks so i look ok when giving birth! :haha: I dyed it rred (using Live XXL) when I was about 13 weeks and died it black about 25 weeks, now my roots (very light brown) are coming through and i look awful! Luckily im dying it brown next so hopefully wont notice my roots as much! :) xxxx

I've dyed my hair 4 times since being pregnant, went prematurely grey at 13 and about 40% grey, so had to dye it. I had reassurance from 2 doctors, 3 MWs and research before i did it, and they al said it was fine. The amount of chemicals that get into your blood stream is extremely minimal and I waited until I was about 16 weeks. I also use the dyes that you leave on for 10 mins, and I tend to leave them on for no longer than 8 mins, so even less exposure.

x

i used live colour only last week - unfortunately it didn't work. I think its hte hormoanl changes in the hair :)

I use live xxl mystic violet ive done it about 3 times before in my pregnancy but always test patch 24 hours before to make sure you dont react as you can develop a allergy even if you've used it a million times before x

I am a hairstylist so here is my thought on it.... Most women like to stick away from it in the first trimester. We are all so worried something will happen and miscarry that its just not worth the risk. That beinng said..... If it were that dangerous then why do pregnant women do hair? Pregnant woman color people hair through out their own pregnancies and are just fine. If you are worried than dont do it. I personally will highlight my hair or will use semi permanant haircolor. Now if you are thinking of doing a perm I would NOT do that. I would never guarentee a perm on a pregnant woman because for some reason perms and pregnancy can do weird things. I have seen a perm go straight in a matter of a week! ( most salons I know will not guarentee perms on pregnant woman due to the hormone changes and how tht effects the perm)

I would deff ask my doctor first...personally I've been rockin my natural roots. When it comes to my looks for 9 months or my babys life I'd rather be safe than sorry.

my bleached blonde hair is growing out so my next job is to get a cut then im gonna redo it i must have quite a large section of roots that ive been wearing my hair up to avoid. gonna hve to get a GF around who dyes her own hair as well to help as OH is a bit useless

I'm dying my hair in red (used to be bleach blonde, but was too scared to bleach whilst pregnant). As long as you ventilate the room you're dying the hair in.
