Hi my lo is only 17 weeks. I started her on baby porridge this week in the morning only and she has 4 9oz bottles throughout the day however she has for the past few night only taken 6 or 7 oz before bed. Is this okay.

17 weeks is a bit too early to be dropping milk. Is there a medical reason you have started weaning so early? If not I would be tempted to leave it a few weeks as milk has more nutritional value and calories than porridge at that age.

She is still taking her full bottle with porridge. 17 weeks is not too early, some people have tgeir kids on solids from 3 months. Her 9oz bottles are not satisfying her anymore so she needs that little bit extra and health visitor said not to make up another bottle to start weaning

Its not TOO early but it is early. There is a growth spurt around 4 months which is why babies start wanting more and seem less satisfied. It is difficult to advise as it does not say where you live. In the UK weaning is reccommended from 6 months and 17 weeks is the absolute minimum age but only ever reccommended if there is an issue such as reflux which can be improved with solids.

It could be it's the porridge that's causing her to have less. Really milk is more important than food until a year, so you might consider just cutting that out as she doesn't need it. But really, babies don't always finish their bottles. In fact, my daughter rarely has (and she's almost never had a 9 oz bottle and she's 1), so she's having quite large amounts during the day. Just see how things go. It's always going to be changing though. That's how babies are. If you see her decreasing amounts in the long-term though, I'd cut out the weaning and just focus on milk.
