Hey y'all.. I haven't been on here since I lost my son Aidan at 24 weeks in 2013. I am back and have a question. :)

So I am 37, will be 38 in July. I have a significant amount to weight to lose which I am already working on. I have lost 26 lbs so far and have changed my eating habits tremendously. I am not sure if I should wait until I lose more weight or try now due to my age?

Thoughts?

HI Ali. I'm really sorry to hear about your son Aidan. Hugs x x

If you feel you need to lose a bit of weight I'd try to just eat healthily to lose weight and ttc at the same time. I've been reading up about eating no sugar or vegetable oils and just eating real food. Weight loss happens without thinking about it, you don't go hungry and it's supposed to boost fertility. I did it before with lots of veg, full fat dairy and no refined carbs. I was never hungry after the first week of adjustment and the weight just dropped off.

Then you never know how long it takes to conceive successfully at our age. It took me 1.5 years to conceive this munchkin. I'm 37.

Other information I have looked into does suggest three months of eating unprocessed real food before starting ttc to improve egg quality but for me personally I did my three months (I was ttc during this time just not successful ), then had a mc followed by a mmc. I have to admit this munchkin was conceived when I couldn't stop comfort eating or drinking every night.

Anyway.....I think I'd do both at the same time. Good luck.

I am sorry for your losses. :hugs:

I think you are right. It took us a year to conceive Aidan. Might take even longer this time, if it happens at all.

I have been eating unprocessed foods for the most part for the last couple of months. I will keep it up and if I happen to get pregnant then great. If not at least I will be healthier..

Good luck. I hope it goes well and that it happens soon.
Will you be using opks or a fertility monitor. Opks helped me as I ovulate at completely different times each cycle.

I certainly feel better on unprocessed foods. My problem is I have a sweet tooth. Yesterday I had a small kids size chocolate bar and then I had a double scoop ice cream. I felt so sick afterwards because I had stayed of the stuff mostly for a week.

I don't think I am going to use anything as of yet. My cycle is pretty predictable and I know I usually ovulate on day 16. Thankfully even with the size I am I still have very regular periods and no health issues. If it takes too long I might go that route. I used OPKs in the past.

My sweet tooth isn't too bad, it is more like chips, and those kinds of things. I just don't buy them and I don't eat them lol.. I find that you can have anything in moderation and portion size and being active is key.

I just noticed you are ready to give birth any day! How exciting!!! I am so happy for you!

Thank you. Baby is feeling pretty comfy in there though. I really want her to be here soon.

Omg chips. I can't buy chips or crisps or biscuits or I'll eat them until they're gone.

I bet! Hopefully she gets uncomfy and comes on her own! lol..

Chips are the worst. I will eat a whole bag.. OMG it is bad lol..

I'm also so very sorry to hear about the loss of your son. So sorry.

I agree with Spudtastic. Given our age, I think it is better to continue trying to lose weight and TTC at the same time. Just when we started trying to conceive my daughter, I thought I should get myself in better shape and started working out and eating healthy and cutting down with drinking, etc. and I ended up getting pregnant very soon after even though I wasn't at my goal weight. But I continued eating better than ever and working out regularly when I was pregnant with her and didn't gain much weight at all with her because I was losing weight just from having a healthy lifestyle. Plus, in all honesty, I think the excitement of TTC will help motivate you on your weight-loss journey. Best wishes!
