Does anybody know any ways to help make breathing easier. I've been having a hard time lately like I'm short of breath and i read that either laying flat on your back or sitting up straight helps but it doesn't seem to help me and I really don't want to have to get a prescription of Albuterol (sp?) (I have excercise induced asthma) so I would like some natural ways to help the breathing.

I have asthma & towards the end of my pregnancy the only thing that helped was my prescription medication, unfortunately I couldn't really find a natural way to help (sorry not much help at all!) hope you manage to feel better x

You shouldn't lie flat on your back when your pregnant btw I can't remember exactly why but it puts pressure on something lol. I don't have any suggestions, hopefully LO will drop soon and that will help a bit
Just remembered when you lie flat it can make your blood pressure drop. I should have remembered that as I had to have an mri scan and nearly passed out from it lol.

do you have one of those exercise balls? if you do then what about getting down on your knees infront of it and putting your arms over the ball to stretch out (put the ball on your bed or sofa if you don't fancy getting up off the floor) i find that it really helps me beause the weight of LO is off of your internal organs for a bit and you can stretch out, it also helps my back ache too because i can stretch out. if you've not got an exercise ball then might work with resting your arms on the worktops or something similar to stretchout.

hope thats of some use to you, it definately helps me when im struggling for breath which seems to be quite alot recently.

I have been having this same thing! I just drink water, take slow deep breaths, and changing my position sometimes helps. Other then that I haven't found a way to help me.

And about laying on your back, your not supposed to for a long time because it puts pressure on something and I hear it can make your legs fall asleep and hurt. I am sure there are other reasons why you shouldn't, but thats the only thing I know of.

I have severe asthma so I have to take my meds but leaning over the couch arm or using the exercise ball to kinda lean on like the other poster said helps...

Whoa yeah, where are reading that you should lay flat on your back? Do not do that! There's a main artery that runs through your abdomen, laying flat on your back during pregnancy causes baby to rest on it, lowering the blood flow and making you more likely to be short of breath and dizzy!

Laying on your side, especially the left, is probably your best bet. It'll put all of baby's weight on your side rather than your front.
